Just updated to 3.0 and used redsn0w for windows. Went smooth, make sure you read the instructions.
I actually did this twice. I upgraded to 3.0 using the 'update' button and it left my phone jailbroken. However, it was a bit buggy so I did the full out restore and now its smoother.
I also ran this on a iPhone 3g. I have the original, but the process for jailbreaking a 3g is the same as a original iPhone now, just run redsn0w and make note of where itunes stored your official 3.0 firmware because you'll need to select it.
***redsn0w will not unlock a 3g so don't select the unlock option***
