Hi guys, most xboxs i flash seem to get the ring of death soon after, people think its the flash but its hard to explain to them how it happens, the only way i can tell them that it isnt from a flash is because i had the ring of death before flashing my drive, but in my case everyone seems to get it after flashing. So can flashing cause the ring of death?

Well there are all differnt reasons for that so unless you know the code you cant know 100% for it.

Well its the 3 red lights so its more than likely the gpu or cpu gone, im very unlucky to have peoples xboxs going on them not long after ive flashed it, makes it seem like the flash has caused it lol. The guy bough it from Currys so would they check the microsoft seal if you take the console back to them? Thanks commando_lee

Well i will tell the guy to take it back and if they dont accept it then he will have to ring microsoft to pick up the console, the seal is still intact but its got a slight smudge in the silver stuff lol

Wow have they really, if thats the case then he should get a new console back from microsoft if currys dont accept it, i think the mfr date of the console is sometime in 2007 so he still has his 3 year warranty with microsoft until 2010 sometime. Cheers mate.

(Going back to the original question)
Just explain to your customer that what you do is 'update' the drive's firmware to a new FW that allows for you to play backups. Then explain that 3 RROD comes from the heating up of the chips, and the warping of the motherboard, and that flashing a drive creates no heat, and has nothing to do with 3 red lights.

Flashing a dvd drive is a software thing
The RROD is a hardware failure.

Thanks guys, hopefully if the guy still got warranty with currys then he can get it replaced the same day and the guy checking the xbox at currys doesnt know about the warranty sticker lol, its only the slightest smudge so i think it would be ok. :)
