PSP full screen mode w component out

I have been reading that the newer firmwares allow full screen mode on your tv when you use the cable to hook the psp to a tv. Does this happen automatically or is there something that needs to be done in the firmware? I have not tried it yet but I just got a PSP modded and I have the cable at home and was wondering. Thanks
