WTF, whats the point in paying for online?

Post by HaGGardSmurf »

I do not understand why we pay for xbox live gold. What is the point? What do we get from it?

I was reading a few articles on the upcoming things for xbox... 1 vs 100 has ads in it, and may end up being a pay to play... Well what the hell do we pay our membership fee for? So we can see ads in our games?

I read a few things on the radio service coming at the end of this month. There is supposed to be 10 mins of advertising every hour. Again, I pay my membership fee and what do I get from it?

To ability to talk in party's, and to play online with friends? Then why pay such an expensive fee for just that?

Most agreed. It's all about the money and how they can make more. I for one find it very hard to get blood out of a turnip though......

I say that if one day no one logged into xbox live as a form of protest. Xbox live would be free. xD

Agreed it's a total rip off. Plus it's 800 points if you decide to change your name which i find incomprehensible. And sadalius is correct i can't seem to get blood out of a turnip either.. :D

Its such a pain in the ass, I dont pay it, its been charged to my parents credit card for the longest time, but still...

Pisses me off that

1) lots of games are laggy
2) There are advertisements everywhere, and they plan to introduce more
3) You have to pay extra for everything, nothing is free.

What the hell does our money go to?

Bandwidth, server maintenance and related equipment, those people that answer the phone when you call with a problem, some peoples salaries, etc, etc.

Most games ive played have been hosted on players connections, I wish M$ hosted more games, it would be MUCH less laggy...

Right, but the initial connection runs through M$'s equipment. It's never a straight connection between you and your opponent or friend.

I dont think they host anything now tbh... I think its all hosted off other people, but ms still handles the connections...

I think the odd game is hosted by the game company's servers, but not M$'s. Im pretty sure Battlefield 1943 is hosted on EA's servers, since for like a week it was impossible to find a game, and it was laggy due to server overload.

True, that is why you dont get all laggy when playing with people from the UK, Canada or Mexico

Well, anyway you look at it, it has to pass through M$ before you could get a connection first. Once authenticated as a Live user, then you can connect from their servers to whom ever. But still, you have to go through M$ first and foremost.
