DVD Drive replacement

Does any one know if there is special firmware like on the 360 that needs to be "transferred" to a replacement dvd drive?

no
you can swap the dvd drive around in the wii
like we used to in the old xbox.

Yup, cofree speaks the truth. I've replaced a few for some people and you can take any drive from any wii and put it into another one and it will work just fine.

That's what I wanted to hear!! But I think this guys motor is just bad, and those are a lot cheaper than buying a whole new drive.
