Status toggles 0x51 and 0xD1 with onboard SATA

I know this may be a bit of a duplicate post but I was just posting to see if anyone has encountered what I have. I started around noon today and now its almost 7pm and my 360 just doesn't want to get flashed. I'm using the latest iPrep and I created a bootable usb stick. I've got an HP DC7700 and both the HDD and DVD-Drive are connected via SATA.

I've tried both the primary (for hdd) and secondary ide channels but still get the same result. Iprep just gets stuck when toggling between 0x51 and 0xD1 no matter how many times I restart my 360 or how long I leave it to toggle, it just won't stop. If I power off the 360, the status changes to 0xD1 but on powering it on again, it just starts toggling again.
I also tried on an hold HP DC5100 and got the same result. Too bad all my pc's are HP's, (sigh!). If anyone has tried and been successfull using the onboard sata with HP's please post so I know what I could be doing wrong.
Though from what I've read online, seems I'll have to buy a VIA 6241 PCI to SATA card. My 360 is brand new, bought it around mid-december just in case anyone is wondering.

Thanks
John

there is a few that have got there drive flashed with onboard sata.
most have trouble and can't

i would tell you to get the pci sata card.
http://tekgems.com/Products/la-pci22-vt6421a.htm

you could try a different usb flash or try it on a floppy.if that dont work get the card.

I presume it's a benq...

The flash chip on the drive will only work with a certain SATA chipset... VIA.

Trust me, I banged my head against a brick wall for about 10 hours trying to flash a benq with an ICH9. Got to the exact same point as you... The card works,or go for 8237 VIA mobo (but I have heard of people having problems with this, mine works fine...)

What do you mean by that?
Thanks

He's referring to the sata ports that are on the motherboard. We find that these rarely work and recommend the sata card that cofree referred to in this post. This will make your life easier, but if you have a sata port on the mother board its worth giving it a shot to see if you can get it to work.

Oh! I've already tried that and it didn't work. I've already started shopping around for a pci-sata card, seems to be what virtually everyone recommends.

Thanks anyways.

it must be a via6421a or L chipset card. ;)

the mobo i mentioned is a VIA, I think that's why it works (for me anyway), but the card is far easier to get hold of...
