everyone says that you must have the sata pci card to flash the benq drive. I have been doing this long now, and I hooked up my xbox cd rom drive to my my connectivity kit wich I have mounted inside my barebone pc. I Have the molux plugged in all the time beacuse it is mounted inside my pc for easy connection. I just today bought a flash drive very cheap one 1gb. I opened up iprep on my pc. opened the program as an administrator, I have vista on it.I opened up my downloaded firmware the 1,4 version of the ixtreme bin file for the benq drive, Just plug in the flash drive in you usb port, and choose destination for the drive it has and format and make it bootable just make sure you check the mtk.
reboot pc and go inside the bios, go to where you can choose boot priority and make you flash disk drive the first, save and let the pc reboot , the it will boot the flash drive with the flash program on it. Just do as the video of it says on this side, before all of this i hooked my sata cable into my motherboard on the first primary sata port to my xbox cd rom and let the connectivity kit be off. It worked perfect for me without the use of the external sata pci card.
and allso this forum rocks bifg time, I made my mates xbox360 today, and i began reading stuff from this site yesterday, got so much nice info here, and allso make sure you take backup of your original firmware before you flash the drive, just to be on the safe side incase the flashing fuckes up you never know. just watch the video here;)
thanx folks

cool man im glad you got.
most people do have a hard time flashing with the onboard sata.
it never hurts to try before you spend the extra money

I like it very well myself. My two daughters and their friends just got through playing rock band. They had a blast and I enjoyed watching them act silly and stuff.

so what you are saying is that you can flash your benq drive with the connectivity kit (wich version V1 or V2? )

You can do it with either one. V2 is more convenient because of the extra features. You will still have to have a via chipset card or a compatible onboard sata (vary rare by the way), but the connectivity kit and a molex power supply helps with powering the benq drive on and off if you don't want to use the 360.

ok so i already have a working via sata card and i flashed my benq drive, i know iprep also works with samsung drives (wich ones im not sure) so basicly i can now flash any benq/samsung drive. BUT as i read there are other drives used in the xbox 360. wich ones and do i need different hardware/software for that ?
Does the connectivity kits will have any bennifits for other drives ? TIA
oh and great site, really helped me alot !

The connectivity kit can put hitachi drives in mode b. It will not put v78 or v79 in mode b though, but slax 2.1 will. So yes, the connectivity kit has benefits for all drives and its more convenient to use in my opinion.

Your right, that one is not an original, but it should work the same as the version 1 of the xecuter connectivity kit. You can connect the hdd of the 360 to your PC, but the data connection would be through sata. The usb connection on the kit is to provide power so if your using a laptop, you can still power the drive. It won't pull data through the USB port on any of the kits. Now if you were to go and buy one of the new 120GB 360 drives thats in stores, it comes with whats called a transfer kit, its supposed to let you transfer the contents of the 20GB drive to the 120GB drive, but you can only do the transfer one time and one way. But the neat thing about this cable is that it works with xplorer360 to connect the drive to the PC and play around with it and it is USB. I've seen those cables on ebay before if your interested in pulling data from the HDD via USB.

but slax 2.1 can also be used with a via sata card to put the hitachis in modeB, right ? (i even read that the ck cannot put v79 nin modeB and you still need to use slax) if thats the case then i dont see any benifits for me already owning a good working sata card...also been looking for a transfer kit and DATEL has also produced one...

sorry to jump in on you guys
slax will NOT put a v79 in modeB
you have to install a passkey to dump or flash the v79

i see ... (quoted from textbook tutorial)
The Hitachi v0079FK and v0079FL drives have extra security in place that makes flashing the drives using software alone currently not possible. There are two ways to flash a v79 drive, but both require soldering and both are difficult.
ok so comming to my original question: with my sata via chipset i can flash/dump samsung ms25/ms28 , Benq (VAD...) and
hitachis (older ones + v0078 << slax BUT not the v0079 without hardware modifaction. right ?

I should have clarified. The 79 can only be put in debug mode with a passkey (requires difficult soldering). All other hitachi drives can be put in mode b with slax. The benefit, though, of using a connectivity kit is attaining mode b with a simple push of a button. You don't have to boot up with slax and then have the hitachi on a seperate power supply, then reset the PC once the drive is in mode b and then deal with flashing. Just push the button and it's in mode b. It's fair to mention that 78's do require slax though. The connectivity kit won't put a 78 in mode b.
The connectivity kits are mainly a convenience thing. To try and make life a little easier. Thats it.
