I need to reflash a friends Hitachi drive, I have the origonal firmware but what do I do with it.
Do I click the Restore Firmware under Hitachi GDR3120? or is it under another tab? (using Jungle flasher .1.55 beta.)
I can't seem to find how to do this,
Thanks for the help :D

use the hitachi tab. you have to do all the beginning steps :: mode b, unlock it if necessary and then return it to stock. after that then you can flash with ixtreme firmware. . . it's fairly simply just as long as you don't run into any issues.

So before clicking Restore to Stock, do I select Restore Firmware or Flash IXtreme, because dont i need to restore my origonal firmware before flahsing to the newer version? or else it would brick from what i've read.

i'm not sure about a restore to stock option, i'm looking at a restore firmware option. that's what i select. if you hover the mouse over the selections it tells you what it'll do. . .

Thanks for your help , much appreciated, but just one last question.

I flashed a 79 hitachi drive using the Slax and Audio 97 discs, can I use these discs to set a 46 Hitachi drive into mode B, or do I need to do it another way? Also do I need to unlock the 46 drive>?
If I use the revert to stock why would I need my origonal firmware?

Ur help is Very much appreciated. ;)

yea, all hitachi drives need to be in mode b before you can work on them, so you can use the slax disc for the 46. however the unlock disc is only for 79's so that's not needed.

If I restock the drive and then flash it, whats the point of keeping the origonal firmware? What use is it? Would it help if the drive bricks?

if you brick the drive it's a wrap, original firmware or not. when you return the drive to stock it's using one of the files that you should of downloaded from xbins that has all the hitachi firmware in it. the files that you get from the drive when you dump are necessary so you can get the key which is the main thing. but also so you can build custom firmware which jungleflasher does for you. the custom firmware is what gets flashed onto you're drive. try not to complicate the process. . .
