Playing mp4 on 360

Hi,just wondering if it can be done without the media update, dont want to update mine because even after manual update you still need to connect to live make an account then get the "free" media update and the fix for the hdmi problem.Thanks in advance for any help.

i dont think it will play mp4 strait out of the box
but
i do think it will play mp3
not 100% on that

Hi, it plays mp3 music etc since the new dashboard update there is a free download on live to allow the box to play mp4 directly from media, i dont want to have to go and set up accounts etc just for the update,thanks anyway.

Create a new hotmail e-mail, go to your xbox, create a gamertag with that e-mail, go through the steps, you can use fake info, it will give you 1 month free, you can then download the update, and it will be key'ed to your console, so you do not need to be logged into any specific gamertag to use the codec's you have just downloaded.
(Thats what I had to do a few days ago on one of my 360's)
