bios password

i have had a friend come to me with a laptop, firstly its not stolen or anything like that. some stupid person has set a startup bios password. i have taken the mother board battery off and no joy. how can i get past this?

Try taking the ram out as well it should reset. Maybe a power cycle.

ok i have taken the battery off the mobo and took the ram will try booting it up now then.

took the ram out and batt still no joy

nice bit of info there mate, unlucky that none off them work, im thinking its gona have to go off and have the chip rewrote

How long did u leave the ram and battery out for??
Try leaving it out for like an hour or something

a couple days, its flashed onto a chip the only way is to either short the tracks out or get a chip change

Try this one. Start at the second section where it says How to Bypass or Remove a BIOS Password
using Software

I just glanced over the article so I don't know how hard it will be, seems easy.

ive had to take it into a local computer shop to get the old bios chip lifted and a new one put on. only gona cost me £10 for labour and £10 for chip, thanks for the info guys

Ok man. I don't know of any computer shops around that would do that so I'd have to do everything myself. Hope it works. If you run into anything else let us know.

they want a stand alone fee of £229.99 no matter what was up with it they would fixit, i only had to take it shop as i cant solder for the life off it. £20 saves all the hassle

Thats how CompUSA was here in the states. They wanted $200 just to touch it, then the cost of labor and repair hardware.
