I'm having this exact same issue. We went to flash my drive last night, and after countless hours we realized it was the August 2009 Lite-on 83850c dvd-drive.

Is there any update on some sort of work-around?

There is no update, nor a workaround for these 'unflashable' drives as of yet.

The Bs-1, 2, and 3 is not a very good way to tell the drives apart anymore, Shootsteel's drive was a BS-3 and all his flashable 8 series were BS-1 or 2's but Cofree got his hands on a BS-3, and was able to flash it.

If you cannot get the drive to dump, you may have one of the unflashable drives.

Just keeping this thread alive, any chance of a sticky? I've been checking, doesn't appear to be an update on this yet...

Well been trying for 3 days now ....

I guess no love from M$ for me

I just tried iprep 10.7 for about 2 hours

all i keep getting is this

Source firmware not found, files not found are key.bin, l83dum.bin, and enckey.bin. The other error is Drive firmware reading failed, double check all your connections and try again

Guess i will have to wait around until the good ole boys find a fix

Well the update is some lite-on's (8 series) are unflashable, as of now there is no way to tell if they are, or are not flashable. The only way is by try.

Go ahead and try gutswaps or returns/exchanges or buying a new xbox, hoping you will get a flashable drive, or just wait it out...

Well i'm currently playing on a modded drive, friend had an extra... but i'm hoping they get this thing going soon. :o We tried mine using jungleflasher and iprep both, but it was a NO GO. Couldn't get the key off the drive no matter what we did. We were using the VIA card also...... *shrug*

Yea, its an unflashable drive. My thinking is the original method for dumping and reading the key (all that freekey stuff) was a 'half-assed' method. I mean, its not the TRUE method for dumping and decrypting the key, but it does work (for most).

Thats just my thinking. It makes absolutely 0 sense that M$ would randomly encrypt some drives with a different method than others... Although I guess M$ doesnt make alot of sense most of the time.

(Again, thats just my theory, its probably way off)
