Flashing troubles and wave 4 dilemma

Some of you may know that I've been trying to flash a liteon with a ck3 pro for a while now, and I still haven't gotten a key off it. The ck3 is probably bad; one of the chips gets extremely hot when it's connected to USB, but I get the same bad key over serial cable in jungleflasher, iprep, and over a DIY connectivity kit.

I'm starting to wonder if the issue is something else with my computer, maybe I can't do it at all with my system. Now, I'm debating whether I should be tracking down a modding service, a new ck3 LITE. Complicating this decision is wave4, however. If my computer won't flash the drive at all, the ck3 is pointless. But having someone flash the drive now, and then again when the next firmware is released would be more expensive. The one-shot method looks appealing, but I'm a little hesitant to bypass the safety checks of the firmware, even though I can guarantee the source for all my rips is legitimate discs. Would a wave4 be less safe in that situation?

I need advice...
