It's always a good idea to restore, but with the benq's and samsungs, it's not required. If it was a hitachi, then yes, you'd have to restore. But with samsungs and benq's it's not required, particularly with benq's since they go through an erase procedure prior to flashing the new firmware.

on the benq you can flash right over the old firmware.
just do the whole thing again.build the flash
dump the firmware
let firmtool run and build the hacked firmware
the flash
make sure you have a good key backup just in case something goes bad

I posted before about a weird blinking third section of the ring on th 360 while flashing. I just flashed a brand knew Benq pro pack out the box no update nothing, using floppy, iprep and Rosewill RC-212 via controller, same way I flashed my own Benq. Noticed that his drive seemed loud so we choose to lower the speed to 5x. Thats when we choose ixtreme 1.4 5x. The first time I flashed his drive the third section of the ring on the xbox did not flash red, but the second time it did while flashing same as on my own Benq. Between flashing his drive we used my hard drive on his 360. My 360 is update to the latest update MS put out. Before we could proceed there was a message to to update his 360 with security patch's blah, blah, we did. I am aware no message is sent to the xbox because the drive is plugged to the via controller so the 360 is only being used to power supply nothing else. Could it be the updates we installed or could it be my hardware on my pc (floppy, via controller, etc..) ?
P.S. Sorry about not posting in the other thread I created. The thread seemed to take a different direction and I felt like no one would even bother to look at it anymore.

your hd has all the updates
when you put it on his xbox 360 the console wanted to move the update into the console
i would not be doing that
dont mix hd and consoles unless you have to

Understood. Does that explain the red flashing third section that occurred while flashing his drive? Could the update affect the flash. Remember mine did the same thing after I flashed it the second time at which time I had installed the MS updates. Do updates affect the drive while flashing?

Don't you use a connectivity kit?

Cofree and I both use the connectivity kit and we've never seen that light that your talking about come up on the 360 itself.

Hate to be a bother. Just trying to figure if there is prob or not. Do you have a Xbox 360 with Benq updated with the latest dashboard update? Just flashed my drive again same results it works but flashes third section during flashing not erasing. Also checked av cable connection everything was fine .
