on the older hit driver you have to do a restore.then you can flash to a newer firmware.
if you look iver this guide it goes into it.
http://www.robinhoodsplayground.com/for ... =110&t=322
after the flash.there will be a was file, now file, key file this will be you important information to keep safe.
you can spoff a different dvd drive in it but if it working dont do that till you have to.

I've never used the slax cd to get it into mode b so I can't comment on it, but the connectivity kit comes with a mode b switch on it that really simplifies the process. You would no longer have to mess with the slax cd. I use one with my hit and I personally think that the hit is the easiest drive to flash.

This is where I get my my stuff from. Check out this link.

You will need some way to power this kit up. I use on old power supply from a computer, but I have used the power from an xbox1 before. You can't power it up from your flashing computer because you have to be able to reboot your computer without turning off the drive you are flashing.

You also may want to look at this tutorial.

Cofree is using a usb to sata adapter (the blue item in the video) in this one, but you can just use you sata card.

Yes that is actually the best way to do it imo. The usb360 is not necessary if you have a sata port, but that's what I use and it really simplifies the process.

you will still need some way to power the connectivity kit though. constant power supply of some sort.

as jman 31 says.. you need a power supply.
I built one from a external hard drive caddy.. using the built in mini power supply ;)

but you can use something like this : http://www.amazon.co.uk/SATA-3-5-2-5-CA ... 10&sr=1-12
