We've just received some exclusive news and specs on the Wii 2 via Logic-Sunrise.com (through a Nintendo of France marketing employee). The leaked specs denote the Wii 2 will get a Blu-ray drive (mainly to stop piracy), but will also support 1080P for games as well as movies. The new system is due out during the third quarter of next year and there will be the option to trade in old Wii's!

More details below (translated from French):

This is a nice exclusive we have here courtesy of Artik from http://www.Logic-sunrise.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; on the Wii 2. The actual information is said to have been leaked from an internal source of the marketing Nintendo France Service. Unlucky for them, this kind of information should stay internal, but that's not our philosophy.

- The Wii2 system will feature a Blu-Ray drive with a secondary aim of stopping piracy.
- 1080P and lower resolutions will be supported, for blu-ray movies and games.
- The release date is scheduled for third quarter of 2010.
- The release will be worldwide and on the same day for all countries.
- A scheme will be available in which it is possible to trade in the original Wii for a cheaper price on the new Wii 2.

Moreover, Nintendo wants to make a worlwide annoucement, only one month before release date. Huge publicity and Viral Marketing will be utilized to create the Buzz. Official pictures are not yet available, and more specs will be released in due course.

Why do we believe it at all ?

* Artik from Logic-Sunrise.com has regularly provided news and has a lot of 'insider' contacts.

* Nintendo has suggested that it's time they embraced high definition technology for the Wii and Blu-ray has firmly established itself. So a Wii 2 with Blu-ray support does make sense.

Well guys what do you think!!!!!
I know there aint alot of specs to go by & it's really just seems more like common sense.
However from what i've heard Artik is VERY reliable with his info...

Their current strategy of not having any games seems to be working rather well at fighting piracy.

im not taken with the bluray, tho is nothing wrong with it as my setup proves
i own NO bluray but i love my free HD viewer ( :D )
(it hasnt realy helped sony as sales prove ms is kikin arse)
but it is just to stop piracy  , to me its a total waste of the disc for a game thats
rarely bigger than a dvd, and the ps3 hasnt used the capacity of the bluray media
to its full yet either -5 hour games suck-

lol a wii game on a 50gb disc

Actually the Wii has tons of games, they're just aimed a significantly different demographic. I love my wii, especially with all of the accessories that are out for it. That's one thing the Wii definitely has over it's competitors. I'm really looking forward to the next gen of consoles!

Any arbitrary Wii game, which I will call Wave the Thing at the Thing, as that's the basis of Wii games, will only be bought by two types of people:

1. Nintendo fanboys, who will buy anything.

2. Parents who need something with bright flashing colours to distract their children.

If by tons, you mean 831 total games available....of which the majority are targeting 13 year old girls, this is clearly why Microsoft has done significantly better as they have 1208 titles of which the majority target 13 year old boys. lol
