Hey all,

First off I just wanna say great site you got here, I'm pretty new to the whole flashing scene, and your tutorials and the overall layout of the site makes this extremely easy to use (Thumbs up) :)

I've before flashed my own 0078F Hitachi drive and that worked fine and no problems there. (booted into mod-b with Slax and then used Jungleflasher to finish the job)

Now I'm trying to flash a LiteOn 74850C Drive, and I kinda get the feeling that I'm starting miss a few a items, I'm trying to do this using the Textbook Guide from 2008, then i realized there was a new video tutorial that CoFree made that uses Iprep 10.7, seeing as it is the newest software i figured it is a safer to use, but im rambling, my question is: Is there a way to flash this LiteOn drive (74850C) without using a Probe and Connectivity kit (like with the Hitachi)?

Without a CK3, no. You need to pull the info from the drive through your probe, you can buy the usb probe if you like, but the CK3 is a good thing to have for all drives.

Once your drive is flashed however, you dont need the probe anymore.

Haggards right. You have to have something that allows for th serial connection to the drive to be able to pull the data and build the hacked firmware. The CK3 is the most conventional method there is. There are other ways though. A ttl serial converter and a home made probe does the trick too. But you just as well get the ck3.

Sorry for the long response time (and thank you for the short reply time :)) My internet connection was down for a long while :'(

Anyhoo, lets see if I get this right, I should be able to follow the video tutorial that CoFree made, and instead of inserting a bought probe I can pretty much just have a wire going from the "port" 11 to the R707 to make the connection? Would a simple wire do the trick? Or is there something I have'nt taken into account yet ?

Nah thats pretty much it. But by port 11 did you mean wire 11?? As above you'll need a ck3 and an r232 port on your pc and the serial cable (if you're using iprep, you'll also need a male to female serial cable if you buy the pro version) and You can either make a diy one : http://www.robinhoodsplayground.com/for ... 101&t=3967" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; or alternatively bridge the 707 points with a wire whichever you prefer.

Yeah I meant the wire 11 on the back of the drive (Don't know what its called  )
I have the Xbox connected to my PC via a sata cable, and I got my USB-flash ready with Iprep v10.7, if I understand the tutorials right you don't need the ck3 kit? If I have it hooked up to my pc via SATA and use the DIY probe/wire I should be able to flash it with just that or?

(Fast reply, I really am liking this site :))

No you WILL need the ck3 and a comport on your pc to attach the serial rs232 lead to the ck3 to use iprep.

Alright, thanks for clearing that up for me :) Much appreciate the help :)

Edit:

Just went ahead and bout the Connectivity kit along with the Probe, was thinking this would be as easy to approach as my old Hitachi drive, but alas no (atleast for me :P) Thanks for all the great help :)

If you plan on buying the pro version order the rs232 serial cable at the same time if you plan on using iprep as it won't work through the usb which is supplied with it but check that your pc has a comport first if it hasn't you might be stuck with using jungleflasher which can dump through a virtual usb comport (the lite ck3 version is obviously no good for this scenario as it can only use the serial connection.) Happy flashing.
