ok basically, this is prob a straight forward question, but my brains working over time so i need to ask you guys.
i wanted to know what is the original firmware? the one we are all supposed to keep a back up of in case anything goes wrong and we need to re-flash the original firmware.
the first time i flashed my drive was
1.4 do i keep that
backups folder
or
does any
backups folder have the original key when dumping the drive from 1.4, 1.5, 1.6 etc.
or
is it only ever(original firmware) on the first ever dump?
the bit that confused me is in all the tuts we are told to backup the backups folder.
thanks

Unless you flash the OFW bin file back to your drive, its only original until you flash it. All drives but lite-ons you should get two files when you dump and flash. One is the OFW and the other is the CFW. When you first flash your drive, the OFW is the original stock firmware. But if you flash it with ixtreme, or the CFW, the next time you dump it, the OFW is really a CFW.
Hope that doesn't confuse ya!!

nice 1 mate, just to confirm my original firmware is the first ever dump i done when flashing to 1.4.
okay now i have to bloody look for the damn floppy it was saved on
just a quick couple of questions; when flashing for the first time if you dont power down after dumping, and save the the backups folder, and instead go on through to writing the new cfw. does this in any way alter or change anything in the backup folder(ofw firmware)
plus
how do i confirm i have the original firmware do i use firmtoolbox and what am i looking for
thanks people

okay ive located my floppies now i got 4 of them with iprep on them. now im not sure so could someone please correct me if im wrong .
i used firmware toolbox to determine what my original firmware is . HOW : well i loaded all 4 backup ofw files 3 of them say benq - vad6038 - 64930c - [ixtreme v.1.41 - 12] .However 1 floppy comes up as benq - vad6038 - 64930c the ixtreme bit does not come up so could this be the original firmware?
could someone please confirm or tell me another way if im doing something wrong
just 1 more thing the floppy which i think is the original has different files to the other ones it has as follows the underlined ones are diffrent to the others:
backups
cfw
tools
auto exec
dben
fben
intro
null
rben

The one that does not say ixtreme after is should be your OFW. You can double check it with jungle flasher. When you load it as your source, it should say stock where is shows the version and such.
