GodzIvan strikes again, this time with a diagram which simply write protects the NAND flash in the Xbox 360 by connecting WP to ground pin (if the flash type has different pinout, just find the datasheet to locate WP). This modification does not stop the ban from M$, but it prevents deletion of the HD installation certificates required by games which means you can still install them on the hard drive. In order to update the kernel this mod must be disabled; a simple switch solution comes to mind.

Does this apply once the console has already been banned then ? As this is the biggest gripe I have after being banned as we all know the consequences to flashing a 360 but none of us expected this, I just recently got a 120 Gig HD and paid a fortune for it brand new, What a waste of money. Im hating the sound of the drive Im having to turn the TV volume right up so I can hear it ok. If I can still do this so I can use my HD could someone please put a vid tut up for doing so.

Thanks Coffree ;)

This is a prevention, not a fix once you've been banned. Once the certificates have been revoked/deleted, it can't be fixed.

Is this the same NAND that holds the 'Ban' value? If so, now im not telling ppl to do it just asking, but if so couldnt someone figure a way to get in there and change the value to unban the console?

Sweet! I kind of suspected that chip might not have very high security. I'll keep this mod in mind when I get another console.

It looks to me like the WP pin needs to be soldered to ground by way of a switch so you would be able to turn this mod on and off. just my observation though i may be wrong.

You are correct hackedit. The use of a switch can be employed here. In order to update the kernel this mod must be disabled; a simple switch solution comes to mind.

Lol get in there... easier said than done my friend, you are talking about a flash chip that is basically onboard memory and storage but for the system's use.

I know, it can be done though with the right equipment. its how they are written orignally.

They are not written initially while on the board and additionally everything, and I MEAN EVERYTHING is digitally signed by Microsoft using 128 or 256 bit AES encryption. This means that unless there's a way around the signature part the info would still be useless because of the encryption.
