So I have an old xenon 1.0 that died on me a while back. Was giving me the rrod even after a textbook x-clamp mod (it did work for 3 weeks though) and heat gun attempts. I was thinking about selling it but decided to give the heat gun one more try, all or nothing. I heated the bottom up for about 4 minutes on the 350 setting then flipped it over. I heated the top on low for 4 more minutes then cranked it to 750 for about 4 more minutes on the top. Cooled it down, stuck some pennies on the ram and crossed my fingers.
Plugged it in annnd bam! fired right up I was so happy I even gave it a 9v fan mod to boot.

Nice lee, that's longer than some of the new xboxs lasted.
My repaired box made it through a 7 hour stress test yesterday too. Looking good so far.
