Read your old drive, then flash it to your new drive. Should be as simple as that if they are the same drive. Another option is to move the old dvd board to the new drive, then no flashing required (just soldering the drive motor leads).

It has to be 3.55 or earlier, but later versions can be flashed back to 3.55 I believe...

using jungleflasher, go to hitachi tab, send mode b, then select return to stock when it is detected in windows... you may need to re-scan to get it to show up in jf

Less than $7 shipped for a replacement laser. If you can take apart an xbox, you can take apart the dvd drive. The solder connection to unsolder is just touching a hot soldering iron tip to the solder joint and it separates.... If you do go with the replacement drive, just swap out the dvd daughter ...

I don't know if there is other than burning an xgd3 disk that you know is bigger than a regular dvd and see if it finishes without truncating. I suppose you could just flash it again with the burner max fw just to be sure.

I flashed the original drive with stock FW and the drive key from my original drive's CFW and let it update the dashboard (the one before the latest dash) then I flashed it with LT+3.0 and put it into the Xecuter xDrive case. I think it might be because it is a liteon drive, they need more than just the dvd key to flash to stock. Hopefully you backed up the drive before you flashed it to stock again.
