I've been wondering on that same topic-I have a BenQ that I spoofed as an Hitachi and flashed as a BenQ do I have to do the spoof again or just flash as a BenQ to get ver. 1.61

I feel your pain-I have Vista on my pc and it gave me fits with J/F as well as toolbox so I got another drive loaded XP on it and things went smooth. Good Luck

Hey Thanks to everybody-but I got it to work-I reflashed the drive following J/F manual on page 56. Works like a charm now!!

Another question there are two firmware version for the BenQ one is the 0800x I beleive I didn't use that one because I wasn't sure and my drive was made in 4-08. Should I perhaps have used the 0800x or is it to late to do so.

Thanks Louis-question can I re-do this over again without affecting anything(safe to do?) the reason is the drive won't read backups or orginals and I'm wondering what went wrong. So should I try spoofing again?

Forgive me for sounding dumb but this is new to me so here's the question-I've spoofed a BenQ drive as a Hitachi right? now do I flash it again as a hitachi to get it to read my backups? i'm sure I spoofed it right because the drive reads as a hitachi but it doesn't play backups just says open tray ...
