New Tutorial for Flashin BenQ Drive?

Post by don »

Just wanted to know if you can flash a BenQ drive this way and whats the difference between this and the one on this forum. Is it possible to brick the drive flashing it this way:-

Tutorial: Flashing the 360 BenQ with Iprep101 v006

First off download the tools needed for the job:

Xbox 360 with a BenQ drive
Via 6421 Sata Card (Nforce or other Via Sata Cards tend to work too)
iPrep 101-006
USB Stick or Floppy Disk (USB is the better option, but some people struggle to get it to boot, if so then use a Floppy)
iXtreme 1.41
iXtreme 1.4 Definition - called ixDef.xml
Torx10 Screwdriver
Small Flathead Screwdriver (both screwdrivers only needed to take off the 360 casing shell)

Install iPrep onto your PC and load it up.

IMPORTANT: You will need the 1.4 iXtreme Definition xml file that is needed for iPrep to recognise any 1.4 iXtreme FW's. Download it and put the file in C:\Program Files\X-Projects\iPrep 101\Resources. By doing this before starting iPrep it will allow iPrep to recognise iXtreme FW's. (if you cant find it on the net, click the source at the bottom of the page)

PREPPING iPREP

1. First off click Load Firmware (see the highlighted box above) and select the iXtreme 1.41 rar file, it will go through a list of each speeds, select either the 8x or 12x speed. It will then load onto iPrep as shown above.

2. Now you want to select your SATA card, make sure you tick the Patch MTKflash. And then find your SATA card listed in the SATA option box. If it's not listed then you have an incompatible card, if it is listed the proceed to part 3. I always advise everyone to go on eBay and get a VIA VT6241 as they were made purely for flashing Xbox's.

3. Select your target drive (ie. the drive letter your Flash USB stick is) and tick the Foramt/Make Device Bootable, and not press the Prepare Destination button. It should only take a few seconds to make a bootable USB Stick with all the file required to flash your BenQ drive.

Thats it for the actual prepping of the bootstick.

Power down your PC, turn it back on and go into the BIOS. Have the USB Stick as the first boot device, save the settings and restart your PC. Now for the time being turn off your PC.

Hopefully at this point you have stripped the case off the Xbox, if not look up in our other threads on how to safely take the case off your Xbox, put the metal xbox casing next to the metal frame on the PC tower so they are touching, this will create a current for the xbox so there wont be no power surges.

Plug up the SATA cable to the back of your BenQ drive, so one end of the SATA is connected to your SATA card/PC the the other to your Xbox.

Turn on your PC and the USB Stick should kick in, you will be greeted with a disclaimer screen. Press Y to continue.

Now it will give you a list of options, for flashing either a BenQ or Samsung Drive. Were doing a BenQ drive here so dont worry about the Samsung part.

FLASHING

Type in dBen 1234567 12345 (replace 1234567 12345 with your real serial code on the back of your xbox) hit Enter.

It will now tell you to Turn off the drive/xbox so TURN IT OFF, and hit Enter.

It will now give you some crap about the MTK Vendor, and to select Yes or No (Y or N), turn back ON your xbox and type Y and press Enter. It should start reading the banks like this below..

Reading Bank0....OK
Reading Bank1....OK
Reading Bank2....OK
Reading Bank3....OK

IMPORTANT! You must power the 360 back ON before pressing Y on the MTK Vendor section to continue.
If you press Y to continue with the 360 powered OFF (as
instructed to do on screen) it will immediately freeze attempting to
write Bank 0. This is a bug in iPrep 006 and will hopefully be
resolved in a future release.

Resist the temptation of Restarting your PC as instructeded after it has read the banks. There is no need to as Samtool will run a few seconds after.

Samtool will now run and check that the serial key is correct. If it shows up saying Successful then proceed to the next part, if not, do the steps above again. You will also see your Drive Key at the top of the Screen, write it down and make a note of it.

You dont need to turn your xbox off or reset your PC at this point, i never do.

Type in fBen 1234567 12345 (remember to put you real serial code in rather than 1234567 12345).

It will now do the same as before, Turn OFF your Xbox and hit Enter.

The MTKFlash Vendor screen will come up again, now turn ON your xbox again and hit Y then Enter.

This will now Erase all firmware off your drive and get ready to replace it with the iXtreme FW.

It will again tell you to turn OFF the xbox and hit enter. The MTKVendor screen will appear again, so as before turn ON your xbox then type Y and hit Enter.

IMPORTANT! You must power the 360 back ON before pressing any
key to continue.
If you press any key to continue with the 360 powered OFF (as
instructed to do on screen) it will immediately freeze attempting to
write Bank 0. This is a bug in iPrep 006 and will hopefully be
resolved in a future release

This will now Write the iXtreme FW onto your xbox and look like this..

Writing Bank0....OK
Writing Bank1....OK
Writing Bank2....OK
Writing Bank3....OK

Wait until it's all finished and your done.

If all is OK and you followed everything ive said on this tutorial, go and plug your xbox to the TV and test it out to make sure it works ok (which it should). You have now Successfully flashed your Xbox 360 BenQ Drive!!!

Congratulations.

This is basically the same information. Except the fact that he is telling you to turn the drive back on before sending the MTK Vendor commands and rebooting after the dump. If you flash enough Benq's you'll find that there are a few that respond differently. about 99% of the time, you basically just follow the instructions provided by iprep. Turn the drive off, hit enter send the MTK commands and turn the drive back on. There is that 1 percent that won't respond unless it is on during the MTK command send, so yes, in that case, you would need to do it that way. Now about the reboot. The flash will work if you reboot or not. Its there as a precautionary measure. So the choice there is yours. I would prefer to trust the hackers that came up with the flashing solutions that say you need to reboot after the dump. Personally, I don't use iprep as a means to dump or flash with. I use mtkflash for samsungs or dosflash for benq's. I use iprep so I know what to suggest to folks who have questions because it makes things easy for those that don't understand how to manually flash drives. That being said, I've never had a problem using iprep and following the onscreen instructions that it gives me to follow. Like the problem that the guy was talking about pressing Y and it freezes at writing bank 0, I've never had that problem.

You will find many different variations of how to flash a 360 drive on many different forums. Which one you follow is up to you but, the trick is to find what works for you and stick with that.

So in the latest version of iprep, it doest tell you to 'off' the xbox 360 anymore (when you can't)? If thats the case, have you got a link for the latest version of iprep.

Thanks
