A successful Nforce MB + BenQ flash
A successful Nforce MB + BenQ flash
Just wanted to post that I had success with my Nforce4 onboard SATA controller (Abit AN8-Ultra Motherboard).
One of the things that I was confused by is that the status I always got was 0x7f after doing the dben command.
A few things I did prior to the flash attempt:
1. Updated XP Nforce drivers to 6.86 from Nvidia's website.
2. DL'd and patched iPrep per the tutorials.
3. In iPrep, my SATA info listed 3 entries in the drop-down. 1st entry was "NVIDIA Nforce4 Parallel ATA Controller", followed by 2 identical entries of "NVIDIA Nforce4 Serial ATA Controller". So my 1st attempt I used to 2nd entry (the 1st listed Serial ATA controller) and made a bootable USB flash drive.
My first series of attempts left me with only a 0x7f status after running dben and trying all 4 SATA ports on my MB.
Instead of giving up, I went back into iPrep and redid the flash prep and this time I selected that 3rd entry in the list (the 2nd Serial ATA controller).
I came across a forum post saying to use the SATA 3 port, so I started from there.
After running dben, status was at 0x7f, I powered on the Xbox 360, and BAM!!! ***SUCCESS***
It successfully hacked my firmware.
Prior to running fBen, I verified that it created a backup of my original firmware, which it did. I unplugged my USB drive and connected it to another PC to check it. When I plugged it back into my PC I was using to flash, I ran fBen and after it erased my original firmware it was stuck at "Writing Bank 0...".
Minor delay, but I had to go through the original process of resetting my PC, powering off my Xbox 360, then entering the fBen command, and powering my Xbox 360 back on for it to start writing the Hacked firmware.
Now all I have to do is wait for my burner and start messing with backups.
Thanks to this site for the available vids and the forums.

Re: A successful Nforce MB + BenQ flash
Success for me too!!! I flashed my Benq using the NFORCE motherboard's sata ports (motherboard is an Ashrock Penryn 1600SLI). Same for me , 2 identical entries of "NVIDIA Nforce4 Serial ATA Controller" on iprep, I chose first and succeded flashing with the first port i used with no probs at all. The only thing that didnt happen was the D1 status. After status 0x7f it went straight to the procedure (status 0x73) after powering on XBOX. Congratulations about your enlighting site, it was 100% helpfull!!

Re: A successful Nforce MB + BenQ flash
damn i didn't mess with any of that, all i do is...
connect my drive to my pc sata, nforce 4 of course, works without a hitch
boot into vista
power on drive
click dosflash32
on off 360
drive shows up
read/save og fw
copy ofw to 12x folder, click make cfw prog
write cfw to drive
thats it lol
then for reflashing its even easier....just pick which fw bin you want an write it...0800 for ripping or which ever speed u choose for ixtreme
does anyone on here even use dosflash32 ? man nothing could be for easier flashing the benq drive IMO

You could always do a guide with pictures Digital Menace, I'm sure people will really appreciate it.

I think the only reason I did the iPrep thing was because there were a lot more tuts for flashing with it.
Re: A successful Nforce MB + BenQ flash
In all honesty, I still do things the old fashioned way. I do everything manually, but I teach iprep because of its simple nature. It's easier for most people to understand typing in two commands to get a dump and then flash a Benq as opposed to three commands, each one for a specific purpose, to do the same thing doing it manually. And then remembering the other manual commands for dumping and flashing a samsung.

well for me dosflash32 was way easier to do, but oh well its best to have every method out there an then let the person choose.

i put up the guide in the tutorial section.

Re: A successful Nforce MB + BenQ flash
Sometimes its not about the choice, but what works. The trick is finding what works for you. If dosflash16 works for you, then use it, if iprep works for you, use it, dosflash32, you get the picture. The key is researching each method, compare that research to the equipment that you have and try out the best option that you have. If it works, hooray. If not, try something else. Then if you find you have a choice, then you can go with what is the easiest.
I do it the way I do because thats basically how I got used to doing it and it works, so thats what I stick with.

i agree man, whatever works for someone is what they usually stick with an teach.
but like i said, i believe all the nubs like myself should try df32 see if it works for them cuz it's simplicity.
