Xbox 360 RROD Question

Post by don »

Does RROD depend on how often you continuously (hours) use your console everyday ? Is their a limit to the number of hours per day you should use your console to avoid RROD?
What are the chances (high or very low) of getting RROD with a Falcon chip/heatsink?

there is not right answer to your question.
some consoles went rrod with low hours other went after many hours.Yet some have never went rrod even to this day.

all the new chipsets are to new to know what will happen with them.

Yeah the best you can do is use the 12v fan mod, wind tunnel mod, and use quality DVD+R DL media if you flash the 360 for use with backups. Aside from that, it's an inherent flaw in Microsoft's hardware which hopefully will be addressed with the release of the upcoming chipsets.

How would good quality DL DVD media make a difference?

By putting unnecessary strain on the laser. It may not directly contribute to the RRoD, but the azo (metal) dyes on Verbatim's will definitely prolong the life of your 360 DVD Drive laser. The 360 has enough issues without using CMC Mag dyes to shred the laser.

Thanks for that good info. Maybe I should take your 12v fan mod and wind tunnel suggestions more seriously...I only have the 5v Talismoon whisper fans in my 360s.

i would suggest whisper max as you can go from 5v to 12v or 12v to 5v whichever way, while playing movies or music just put it to 5v and while playing games switch to 12v. not sure if you could use 12v mod online as you might get banned but this is how the fan looks. i made a usb fan which is integrated onto my xbox and its been going strong since and i never had any freezes. occasionally i just put a 120mm usb fan right next to the vents.

http://www.talismoon.com/cgi-bin/multip ... d=RKS00099" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
flashed 16 benQ, 8 Sams25, 3 sam28, 2 hit 0059dj, 2 0047dh 3 0047dj, still stuck on 0078fk, failed 0047dj hardware

So is this the best fan available for the xbox 360? Cant you use mod fans on a xbox 360? How can Microsoft find out?

Is it easy to fit that fan in and does it require soldering?

wouldnt know if its the best but they are specially made for xbox 360. yeh no soldering required, they just fit as any stock xbox 360 fan would. its a simple swap. you can view them on youtube and stuff.

most of us dont think the 12v fan mod will get you banned.
the main reason is that the 360,if it gets hot will kick up to 12volts on it own.it part of the console software.
so doing a 12volt fan mod should be fine.
i do them now on all the 360 that i open.
im not sure how the whisper fan would do if it was put in 12 volt mode for full time use

I can't speak to getting banned on live with the 12v fan mod. My motto is on when I'm on the fence... listen to Sadalius. :D

Sad has posted that according to llama the nitro button (button that ups the voltage on the fan to 12v) on the whisper max fans draws the extra voltage from the DVD drive which may cause issues down the road. Personally if I was going to choose between the 12v fan mod and Whisper Max, I would do the 12v fan mod. It requires some minor soldering. Here's a link to the 12v fan mod: http://forums.xbox-scene.com/lofiversio ... 67270.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Here's a like to the fan shroud or wind tunnel mod: http://rbjtech.bulldoghome.com/pages/rb ... box360.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

These are at best deterrents for the RRoD. The 12v fan mod along with the fan shroud mod causes the 360 to move a lot more air than at stock.

Concerning the Whisper Max fan...you don't need to do any soldering...and it is very easy to install...no screwing/unscrewing necessary. Same for the regular Whisper fan (which is what I use in both my machines). I chose to not go with the Max because of the 12v option...because *in the event* that MS does somehow know how to monitor the fan speed, I didn't want to run the risk of getting banned...as our 2 boxes are constantly on Live.

The wind tunnel mod is something that seems to make a bigger difference than the difference between a 5v/12v...but I haven't quite been able to wrap my mind around how to make one of those...seems a little tricky to cut the cardboard (or plastic) just right to get it to fit. Maybe I need to see a better video or diagram on how to do it.
