I thought you just put the regular Talismoon Whisper fan (5v) in your machines, CoFree.

I used the Whisper fans in both systems I had that encountered the RRoD. I don't have firsthand experience with the Whisper Max fans. It really comes down to user preference for both. I don't think either is a fix for the RRoD, but a deterrent. If you are leary about drawing extra voltage from the DVD-ROM drive for the Whisper Max fans, then go with the 12v fan mod. If you are leary about the soldering involved with the 12v fan mod, go with the Whisper or Whisper max fan. I can't solder a lick, I had someone install the 12v fan mod for me.

5 to 12 on a stock.
it only goes to 12v when it gets hot.

i dont use them, but it can't be more than what is on a usb port to start with.I think a usb has 5 volts.im not sure how many amp it has.

i do the 12v mod on most of them now.
if not then it gets this.

Whats the difference between this fan and the WHISPER MAX fan and why do you choose this fan over the whisper max fan?

You need to solder this fan on?

I just use the regular Talismoon Whisper Fan (not the Max which has the 5v/12v switch). I suppose what CoFree does is he uses this same Talismoon fan and does the 12v mod (which involves soldering)...so that it doesn't take the 12v from the DVD-ROM, but from the mobo instead.

Whichever fan you choose to buy (the Talismoon Whisper or the Talismoon Whisper Max), I think your cheapest (and fastest) solution is to buy it on eBay http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dl ... etaEndSort" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; that's how I have bought mine.
