No, I don't think that would be a fair assumption.

First of all, I don't think they are banning because of a fan mod. Thats why I, like CoFree will do the mod.

Second, I do think that it could be feasible that they do. (If this statement makes you scratch your head, see my first point)

To elaborate, if I were in MS shoes, I wouldn't just pull random fan numbers. I would pull a collection of fan value data over a period of time. Knowing that when you first boot a 360, the fans do not run at 12v. For that matter, it isn't for a little while that I even notice either of my 360's ramp up the fans just a little and then back down to normal RPM. And it's not till she gets nice and warm that she kicks up to full rpm. The data from such a gaming session would reflect that. A gradual build up in rpm as opposed to someone who had a 12v fan mod, would be full RPM every second that the 360 was on. Simply observing the monitoring software on a PC can give you an idea of what I'm talking about here. Look at it when the PC is just idle, and then look at it again under a light load and then look at it under full load. You'll see fluctuating values, as such you should see on the 360. They could use that same fluctuating curve to compare someone running a 12v mod and say that he has violated the TOS and ban him. But again, I'm like CoFree on this, I just don't think they care about a fan mod.

M$ must understand the reasoning behind the fan mod. It is to try to curb the heat issue. I would think they know they put out a faulty piece of equipment and should realize that they have created their own monster. In fact it may result in less returns to them for RRoD fixes. I think they would be crazy to ban for the mod.

i have not done a 12v mod on a whisper fan(only stock fans)
i may get a max fan next time just to see how it works and what i think about it.

How exactly do you do a 12v mod on a MS 360 STOCK FAN?

Simply clip the positive wires for the fans from the fan connector, strip them back and solder them together, then solder a long enough wire in place to reach a 12v source and solder it down. Leave the ground wires in place and plug the fan connector back in and you now have 24/7 12v to the stock fans. The fans are rated for 12v anyway so they can handle the extra voltage with no problem.

...and if we'll be doing the video...could it address whether the same exact mod (assuming you will do one on a 360 stock fan) would work on the Talismoon Whisper fan?

The answer to the question of whether the 12v fan mod would work on the talismoon fans or not is easy. Those fans are rated 12v too so yes it would work for them as well. Thats how they got the MAX fans. They used the same fans, and just added a different connector and a booster switch. The booster switch just switches the voltage from the stock setting to full 12v when activated.

Can the WHISPER MAX FANS damage the 360 DVD Drive, as it makes it work harder? What are the advantages and disadvantages of the MAX FANS?

The whisper max fans connect through the power connector of the dvd drive. This to some modders is considered a disadvantage because they believe it is taking some needed power away from the dvd drive. Others feel that its safe. All in all it depends on who you ask as to whether they are safe or not. I haven't done any extensive testing to confirm or deny that it could cause any damage. If this is a disadvantage, then I would see this as its only disadvantage.

The advantage to this fan would be the ability to switch from a stock setting, which is variable speed to a constant 12v. They also provide better air movement than their stock counterparts.

Thats pretty much it.

Im thinking of buying the WHISPER MAX FAN.

Is heat the only cause of RROD? Anything else?
