Help with BenQ Flashing, Stuck at 0xFF

Post by Thedan955 »

Hi All,

This is my first time trying to flash an x-box. Ive read all the tutorials (currently following the "textbook" version" Ive also watched the video you all have posted here somewhere.

Ive purchased the recommended VIA 6421 chipset SATA PCI card. Ive had no problems creating and booting my USB but it get stuck at 0xFF and i cannot get it to read anything else. Im at a complete loss. Ive tried the NSTF-DOS method as well and i get stuck at the same place. Ive read that some people have ran MKTFlash manually and selected the drive but im not sure how to do that, I cannot find any guides or related forum posts.

Can you guys point me in the right direction? The frustration is building :evil:

ok
first just stay cool.
you have the hard part behind you booting on a usb flash.

if ill following you you can not get the D1 to start flashing.
if so the first thing i would try is a different usb flash.(that could be it)
other than that here is a list

What that means is the computer is not seeing the 360 drive.There are many different thing that can be causing this problem.
Chipset will not work.Most sata ports on the mobo will not work.
Try a different port on your sata card.The port closest to the front most of the time is the one to use.
Try a different sata card.This a card that is known to work
http://tekgems.com/Products/la-pci22-vt6421a.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Try a different sata cable
Put the sata card in a different pci slot
I would try this just for kicks before the next step.Try a floppy maybe that will do it (don't hold your breath)
You may even need to try a different computer.This is rare how ever it will happen some time.

this info is posted here.

let us know how it goes

Make sure you have the sata cable in the primary port on the card, this is usually at the front of the card, closest to the motherboard. 0xff means there's nothing happening at all.

Im positive that its not a LiteOn. I know its a flashable drive for sure. I dont have another computer to try it on so im kinda stuck there. This is the PCI Sata card that i bought http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6815124023" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I know the Sata card can find the x-box because if I leave the xbox on when i turn the computer on, i can see it recognize the drive during the boot sequence. Ive tried the flash in both Sata ports, with a USB and a floppy, Ive also tried both PCI slots for my card and rotated sata wires.

Are you plugging it into one of the ports on the inside of the computer? If not you need to. Usually the one towards the front on the computer. Also are you seeing an extreme master drive when you boot your iprep to dos? I would also try another sata cable. They will go bad, or be bad right out of the box.

Yes ive tried both ports inside my computer on the PCI card. Ive tried difference SATA cables. Im not sure what you mean by seeing an extreme master drive. Can you explain that a little more?

Once iprep has booted from your flash drive it will give you options of which drive to choose. I think its the "extreme primary master" (or something along those lines)that you will choose from the list. That will be the dvd drive that you are trying to flash. If you are not getting this drive then you still have issues with the computer finding the benq drive.

it should go just like this video.
http://www.robinhoodsplayground.com/for ... =110&t=277" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

for some reason the computer is not seeing the dvd drive.

ehh try dosflash32 man, click the link in my sig.

if that method doesn't dectect it either..then it certainly must be something wrong with either ur card/slot or pc...something like that.

i hate when things don't work like they should, but theres always a reason for it...i think everyone can help you out tho man, just stick with it.

good luck.

Have you tried disabling all your SATA and IDE devices (except your primary HDD) from your bios and unplugging them from your motherboard? That is a common fix for iPrep not recognizing the 360 DVD-ROM. Are you using the 360 to power the drive or a connectivity kit?
