New to xbox 360

Post by tonx360 »

So people tell me all the time "hey why dont you mod your 360" but no 1 likes to explain it to me... I have a samsung dvd drive. Apperently i need a mod so im guessing thats a little chip that i need to get to put inside my xbox 360 console. So where do i get it and how much does it cost? NExt they say you have to flash your drive. I am going to buy a blaster 360 which i hear is really good for flashing. (I dont even know how to flash.) it cost like 50 bucks. anyway can i just flash it or do i need that stupid 80 dollar chip installed in my xbox as well? That means soldering and im a brain dead amuter at video games. look cant even spell half the words here... lol.... anyway my point is that i want to play backup games on my 360. What is the cheapest way to enable this feature without really having to solder and stuff. Please helpl me out here i just want to play games here the cheap way..

First, I moved your post into the right place.

You don't have to do both. You can choose whether you want to install a chip or flash the drive. Flashing the drive is a better choice in our opinion. You've came to the right place to learn how to flash the drive. Since you have no flashing experience, I would recommend reading the guides in the tutorial section. Specifically the ones on flashing the samsung drives. There are a few things that you'll need to be able to flash the drive though. Here is a list of items that you'll need.

1. Compatible sata controller, we recommend one with the via 6421 chipset. This will allow you to make the sata connection from the dvd drive of the 360 to the computer.
2. We recommend (but isn't required) a connectivity kit. If your samsung is an MS-28, we recommend the xecuter connectivity kit V2 complete with power switch. This will allow you to make a power connection from your PC to your 360's dvd drive and if you get the xecuter con kit v2, be able to power on or off the 360 drive independently of the computer.
3. Latest version of iprep 101, a computer that will boot from USB, and a USB stick. If your computer won't boot from USB, you can use a floppy disk or NTFS4DOS boot cd.

Once you read through the guides and watch the videos that are in the guide section, you should have a better understanding of how to flash the drive. Then if you have questions, feel free to post them up and we'll try and answer them.

OK So i got it flashed by some local guy for 75 bucks. He gave me some games like army of two ninja gaiden two and some more on dl dvd+r verbatim discs. I tried them out they all worked fine i copied each one using dvd decrypter, xbox backup creator and img burn then i burned them and they worked fine. But when i attempted to burn my ORIGINAL need for speed most wanted game the .iso file was like 5,448 kb. im pretty sure its supposed to be in the 6-7.5 gb range. and the .dvd was like 48 kb. I saw some youtube videos but they all requiered i open up my computer dvd drive!!! I really want to avoid that can anyone help me out here? All i want is to protect my games from my little brother he ruins them by the minute!

ok man
there are 2 ways to backup a 360 game.
1. is the hot swap.do a back up this way you have to open up a dvd drive that is in your computer.then after you dump the game you have to stealth patch the iso.
there are not many that do it this way.
here is a guide to doing it this way if you want.
http://www.robinhoodsplayground.com/for ... =110&t=153" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
you would then use img burn to burn the iso.
one big problem with this way of backing up a game is not all the stealth file have been uploaded where mulleter will fix the iso.
this way is a pain in my opinion. ;)

the 2nd way is the way most everyone does it,but it will cost a little money to get the parts you need.
2. you would buy a sh-d162c dvd drive that has been flashed with kreon v100 firmware.
that is a dvd drive that you would install in your computer.
then you would put you 360 game in that drive run xbc and with a click or two it would dump you 360 game with all the stealth files, and the dvd file that is the layer break.
here is a guide for doing a backup this way.
http://www.robinhoodsplayground.com/for ... =110&t=113" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
then burn with img burn.
they are not making this dvd drive any more and they are getting harder to find i would get one while you can.

keep in mind that when you dump a 360 game dump it slow 4x speed and when you burn the game burn at no faster than 2.4x speed.

Have you ever tried dumping at full speed and burning at 4x CoFree? Give her a try sometime, if your PC is newer I really don't think you'll have any issues.

yep.
i know it works.
dumping at 12x and burning at 4x.

the thing is many do not have a computer that will dump at 12x and burn at 4x.(and be 100% that the iso is good)
if they are trying it at that speed and there backups not playing that is the first thing to change.
so
i just do all mine like i tell every one else.
yes
i practices what i preach :D :D
the dump takes a little longer but the burn is about the same .

so guys
yes.
you can dump at 12x speed and burn at 4x.so people do that.if you have any trouble with your back up playing.
dump and burn slower.
I on the other hand.
dump at 4x speed and burn at 2.4x(no faster).

Yep very true. Older PC's may not work that well doing it that way, I'd say anything in the last 3 years is okay though. It is hard to generalize across different setups though, so I know exactly what you mean.

daamn 75 bucks for a flash ? i guess if you had a hit 79 then i can see the high price.

but 75 bucks for a sammy flash is a damn rip off imo.

anyway regarding dumping at 12x, yeah thats what i dump my games at an no problems, but my pc isn't old either so yeah i would say dumping at higher speeds is only for "somewhat" newer or upgraded pcs.

these verbs i have now only burn at 2.4 so i'm stuck at that speed, but the ones i had before i would burn at 4x and i even heard on those 8x verbs you can successfully burn at like 6x, i never did it but i also read burning at higher speeds on those is good cuz the laser is stronger or something ?

what do you guys think ? right or wrong ? lol

just thought i'd mention it an see if thats true or false.

So how do i do it with that if when i take it apart the drive is no longer conected to the computer so my computer unrecognizes it and when i push the drive back in it spins the new disk.. if you are doing the hot swap.
you will never turn off the computer.you have to open the dvd drive with the computer on to put the 360 game in.

Yeah I'd sooner make love to Sasquatch than attempt the wxripper method. Save yourself some aggravation and purchase one of the Kreon drives off eBay.

...or even buy a spare samsung or benq drive and flash 0800 firmware onto it. It's a slightly more expensive option, but it works.
