5x On Benq...

i was considering flashing my benq to 5x to lower the noise and have it read more slowly...

there any bad effects from having the drive read slower ?

do yoy guys recommend this ? or just leave it at 12x ?

reason i'm asking is if the lower read speed would damage the drive in any way ? i hope not.

but yea just wanted to see what's best before i do it.

I've never done 5x but I have done 8x and it was so slow loading games that it was rediculous.

yeh say if you were loading a stage in kane and lynch game, on a 12x drive it would take about just over a minute and if you make it 5x then it will take rougly over 4-6 minutes but the drive will be dead silent.

the longer load times drive me nuts.
i would not go slower than 8x.

but
what ever speed you flash in it should not hurt the drive.
well that is till you hit it with a hammer wanting it to load faster

if you do reflash it. get us some numbers(load time)
what is the load time on some games at the speed you have now and then the load times on the slower speed you put in.
that would be cool to know.

just what ever game you want to do is fine.
i dont think it would take more than 4 or 5 different games to get a good idea of how the load times change with the different read speed.

gta4,
bioshock,
saints row.

these are the games in noticed which have long loading times e1 on a 12x drive so it will be good 2 compare these, ofcourse if you have them, if not then any other games would be fine too. glad you working on it.

Halo 3 took ages to load just starting the game to get to the main menu on 8x. I reflashed to 12x and it was like normal like my roommate's stock 360. I only flash with 12x when people send me their 360.

yeah it definitely is game specific, i mean normal games the load times really aren't that bad...regardless of the speed but maybe 2x would be waay too slow lol.

but on like the level loading screen on bioshock is even long on 12x....soo yup.

i'm at 5x right now an i just like the fact the drive doesn't spin up so loudly, all you hear is the searching/reading which is just a tad louder than reading a normal 360 disc, i like it better for sure.

i tried the new battlefield an it's not bad at all on 5x....also tried fear which is same maybe 30 second load screen if that.

The load times don't bother me as much, the lag does. In some games where the data is meant to be read at 12x you will get some annoying skips using a 4x firmware. It's not that common, but a/v hiccups drive me nuts.

yeah man...i was wondering during 12x speed do the fans spin any faster ? since the drive spins up...

cuz on 5x they run normal in games...like when your at the dashboard.

wondering if thats bad for the 360 or not ?

firmware has nothing to do with the fan speed.heat is what will make the fans step up in speed
