another BenQ 0xFF / 0x7f

Post by JakkTheRipper »

I did read the other posts with similar issues.

I'm using a gigabit mobo on XP. I have flashed the Hit drives using slax w/this board in the past, so the SATA can work

When booting iprep from USB I get either 0xFF > which I understand means its not reading it, or I get 0x7F : I'm not sure what that means.

I've tried turning on / off the box in the suggested manner in the tutorial and have tried some of the things suggested in other posts. Any other things to try? I guess if all else fails I'll but the PCI SATA card :(

What sata controller does your gigabit board have? Have you tried dosflash32 with it? There is a tutorial on that if you want to give that a try. It might work better if your sata is nforce, but I'm not real sure.

that was a quick response!! much appreciated. I'm not at the comp right now; at work ATM. So I can't check the controller. I do remember I had a few diff options in iprep and 2 or 3 said they were MTK and dos flash compatible.

I'll try building another boot w/ the other devices and try dos flash

thanks for the link on the card. seems like that will prob. be what I'll have to do.

EDIT : I found out 0x7F means the drive is busy. going to try the suggested things when I'm home.

that makes a lot of sense, I can see that happening. but the box is brand new just put a disk in to make sure it wasn't DOA. but I did take it out previous to attempting everything :D

neh from what i can tell even if there is a disk inside it shouldnt be a problem reading and flashing the drive. its your raid controller which is not compatible even though it says it is compatible in iprep. my mobo was compatible too according to iprep but i had the same error, to avoid dissapointment just get the card cofree got and everything will go smooth. you can even flash sammy drives with that card.
flashed 16 benQ, 8 Sams25, 3 sam28, 2 hit 0059dj, 2 0047dh 3 0047dj, still stuck on 0078fk, failed 0047dj hardware

I can flash off my mobo, but there aren't many (a few nforce boards) that will. Even then, I had to do some playing around with bios just to see the different ports in Iprep. Don't drive yourself mad trying to flash from the board. Buy a VIA card and it'll sort it first time.

Well the Hitachi's aren't real picky, a lot of SATA controllers will work. For BenQ and Samsung there aren't many that will work. I have an ICH9R SATA chipset myself, if I plan to update my MS-28 I will definitely get the PCI SATA.
