Blaster

Post by PaulM »

I just flashed my benq drive for the first time. Let me first say thanks for all of the incredible work you guys do in getting tutorials out there for people like me. My only other experience modding in the past resulted in a big black paperweight. I had a couple problems along the way, and I think I'll post that stuff in another thread soon, but for now I have a question about the blaster.

I understand the concept of the blaster, but what I don't understand is how often I'm going to have to be flashing my drive. I thought once it was done, it was done. Do I have to reflash it every time there is an updated firmware released?

Thanks again for taking the time to help beginners.

yes every time microsoft puts out an update you must flash back to original firmware and then flash back.

that is not right. ;)
i have never flashed back to orig firmware before taking a update from M$.
you can flash back before you take a update, thats for sure ,but it does not have to be done.

the blaster is for updating your firmware without having to open your console every time.
there was a time in the past that new firmware was coming out all the time.so open the system every time was a pain in the back side.
now though there is not a lot of new firmware released.so its not that big of a deal to open the console once or twice a year.

So you are saying that you DO have to flash every time there is a MS update, but you don't to go back to original firmware first?

And is there typically a delay between the release of a new MS firmware and the release of the new hacked firmware?

for ms updates you dont have to revert back to original, you can have a flashed drive and still update, last time i flashed mines was in nov last year and its been more than six months but if the firmware does come out you can always update it.

DO have to flash every time there is a MS update?
no, unless there is a updated hacked firmware.
flashed 16 benQ, 8 Sams25, 3 sam28, 2 hit 0059dj, 2 0047dh 3 0047dj, still stuck on 0078fk, failed 0047dj hardware

Sorry if some1 above has coverered this already but I'm just skipping straight to quote/reply.

Let me try to explain how products like the blaster came about & why they was so useful back then:

Basicly back in the early days there was more than 1 type of firmware available on the scene - there was a handful of dev's creating solutions - over the years these have faded from exhistance for 1 reason or another & the firmware has been eclipsed/simply outdated.
1 dev that that has remained strong & consistant is a fw hacker/dev named c4e (commodore 4 ever) - to be honest it looks like he has pretty much nailed it, so much so that there is no need for anybody else to release rival solutions - or infact it necessary for him to keep revising his own work // perhaps his solution/work can no longer be rivaled...

From time to time his FW's are revised as more intel is discovered about what M$ are looking for when attempting to detect modded systems..
I would say that his firmware at present is pretty much undetectable by M$ - hence the reason they have changed the hardware.

In all honesty It's just as easy to remove the casing & reflash with the latest firmware than it is to use a mod like the blaster...
There's not that many revisions these days - the current firmware is pretty much rock solid (4now)

If you havn't got the balls to put your system up & take updates when they surface It's probably a good idea to to hold fire for a few days & wait for the news "if there is any" - 2bh honest I/we (some others) think that if you have been detected you have been detected before the hammer is dropped... in which case flashing back is useless.

However - I make this point strongly >
There's no proof either way of the exact timeframe when systems are detected & bans are deployed - just rumours & guesswork.. it's mostly a conseqeunce of banned systems that enables fw devs like c4e to learn from & revise

thanks MsK, that explains it well. I think I'll stick to my original plan which was to continue to take game updates as they are needed, but for any of the dashboard updates, i'll hold off until other people more advanced w/ this stuff try it first and monitor forums like these to see if it's safe to update.

i understand there is always a risk in playing on xbox live, but it doesn't hurt to take precautions. keep up the good work guys.

The great thing is is that they release stuff like this to the public, instead of getting in touch with M$ and getting rich from filling security holes...
