New Mandatory Xbox 360 System Update

Post by sadalius »

The next time you log into live, you may be prompted to do a mandatory system update. This update does not contain any new features. According to Microsoft, it is to prepare for new system growth and adds no new features. It is not known yet if it contains any new security features as far as detecting modded 360's so it would be suggested to hold off on this update for a couple of days, or at least until C4E can test it out and post a Live log after the update.

I don't think that this update will be of much consequence. But it could very well be seeing as the DMI and PFI read requests has changed some. Hopefully C4E is right on the money as usual and this update is safe.

taken from my topic on a diff forum:

looks like the updates safe, i realised when drunkensquirel said about the kernal, the reason u need an infectus mod chip for the leaked dash update is that u need a specific kernal. this must me microsofts way to downgrade it ready for the new dash :)

quote from c4eva
<+c4eva> there is no check for dmi anymore, and no long read of the pfi
<+c4eva> looks like live from before any fw mod existed
<+c4eva> i think MS have gone back to normal in prep for new dash and loading of games from hdd
<+c4eva> MS must have faith in the lite-on
<+c4eva> im an atheist, lite-on will fall!
[/color]

yet another edit :D

i just updated, i checked my kernal before and it was 6690 and now its 6717. im gna guess and say u all have that version :)

go to system blade>console options> system info(right at bottom)

Yeah i've got K:2.0.6717.0, looks like they are really gonna change things with the next BIG update.
For those who have seen the newdash screens what do you make of them??? I think they look good but i'm not overly fussed with the Mii-like Character idea.......

I'm not too keen on the avatars crap. Now those that think there alright, don't flame me cause I called them crap. Thats just my opinion. But anywho, the rest of it reminds me of an apple computer with coverflow for navigating the stuff in the menu. Kinda lika a ipod touch or iphone on steroids I guess you could say. Not sure how well I'll like that after getting used to the blade system.
