A little Guidance with Hitachi spoofing

Post by dekd »

Hi All,
I have genuinely searched this out as best i could before trying to ask for someone else's time/input. I have had to admit defeat in searching this out so I'm looking for a little guidance please.

I have a dead Samsung ms25, flashed with ixtreme 1.4 with a backup of the original FW and the hacked FW.

The new drive to replace the dead samsung ms25 is a Hitachi 47D. I would have absolutely no problems in straight flash of the new Hitachi, it's just the key aspect that I'm a little unsure of.

Would one of you guys with a bit more know how, please outline the process for me please. I'm confident in cracking this with a little help, it's really just the order of the steps that I'm unsure with in getting the key from the dead ms25 to the new 47D.

Backup, Flash, insert key etc, etc is the bit I'm not to confident with.
My main query is purely the process - I'm happy to do all that is required without any need for further support, if someone can simply detail the steps and more importantly the correct order.

I have read and re-read the tutorial by CoFree "Spoofing a hitachi into a samsung console" but still don't quite feel comfortable of moving on without some further peace of mind.

I think I'm ok with aquiring the old Samsung Key and to an extent getting it on the Hitachi. It's probably the then flashing back to ixtreme that I'm really unsure of. However, if someone could just offer a few pointers, I'm sure I can do this. Or better still, provide a simple/condensed process for me to follow.

Thanks in advance

If your OK with flashing the hitachi straight out, then all you need is to dump the firmware from the hitachi, the key from the original sammy firmware and then put the key into the hitachi firmware and then spoof it to match the samsung ms-25 drive.

Here is a quick outline for the procedure.

1. Open firmware toolbox and then open the ms-25 firmware.
2. Copy the key and paste it into notepad or wordpad or something and save it to your desktop.
3. Connect the hitachi to your computer and get it into mode b. Either by using the slax cd or by using a a connectivity kit. Since its a 47, you'll have no problems with getting the drive in mode b with the connectivity kit.
4. Once in mode b, open up firmware toolbox again. Click tools and direct drive dump. Follow the onscreen instructions to dump the firmware.
5. Once it dumps it will ask you if you want to open the firmware. Choose yes. Open your text document with your samsung key. Copy the key and close the document. Paste the key into the key box and click Replace Key.
6. Now click tools->Spoof Firmware. Choose Samsung TSH943A ROM MS25 from the list and click apply spoof.
7. Now click tools->Smart Hack Patcher and then click ok. On the box that pops up, click the little button with ... on it. Type the name of the firmware that you want to name it, I use hacked.bin and choose where to save it. Then click generate file. It will generate a custom firmware for you. When its done, it will ask you if you want to open it, choose yes.
8. Click tools->Direct Drive Flash->Flash keys and follow the onscreen instructions.
9. Once thats done click Tools->Direct Drive Flash->Flash String ID and follow the onscreen instructions.
10. When thats done click Tools->Direct Drive Flash->Differential Flash. Make sure that your hitachi is in the drop down box, since this is a 47, check the Use classic mode box, and then click read and detect differences. When its done, click start flashing. When thats done, so are you and you can shut everything down and put it in your 360 and give it a try.

Hope it helps!

Sadalius,

Thanks for taking the time to reply. That's as good a response as I could have hoped for. Extremely clear and concise and one I'm now comfortable with.

I was mostly unsure of the requirement to flash back to ixtreme 1.4, once I had managed the key aspects......i.e would i then flash with Hitachi ixtreme FW or Samsung ixtreme FW seeing as it would have been spoofed.

Assuming I have fully understood your response, I don't have to flash with ixtreme FW as it will be using the old Samsung's ixtreme FW with the old Samsung key inserted to the hitachi? Hope I have this right.

If so, I'm good to go.

Thanks again

You don't want to flash the hitachi with a samsung firmware. Basically what my instructions will be having you to do is replace the key and spoof the hitachi firmware so that it only reports as a samsung drive.

Thats what happens when you get to the step that tells you to use the Tools->Direct Drive Dump. It will dump the hitachi firmware and then you choose yes to open it. At that point, you are working with the hitachi firmware and would replace the key with the one from your samsung, then spoof it. Then create your hacked firmware and choose yes to open it. Direct flash the keys, then direct flash the String ID and finally use the smart hack patcher tool to flash the remainder of the hacked firmware. The result will be a that the hitachi firmware will have your samsung drive key and report as a samsung ms-25, but the firmware will be 100% hitachi firmware.

If you were to manage to somehow get the samsung firmware on the hitachi, it surely would not work.

EDIT:

I should also add that it's in step 7 that you make the hacked firmware using ixtreme. I just didn't mention it. Sorry for that. After you go into smart hack patcher, tell it the name of the file and where to save it, then below that will be the rule set box, just make sure that its set to ixtreme14_0036-0059_12x or ixtreme14_0036-0059_8x, the numbers at the end, 12x and 8x represent the drives read speed. Just select the read speed that you want. Personally, I use 12x.

Hope that clears things up!!
