Flashing hitachi 0079FL

hi again,

I am trying to flash this hitachi 0079fl via the new simple method but my problem is I can not get it into mode b with any method. I have flashed a hitachi 0047 before using the slax disc to get it into mode b but it just wont detect this drive, I have tried the resistor trick that wouldn't work either, i also tried the hotswap method my computer froze but came back to life when I turned the 360 off. any ideas?

well make sure you try both slax if one wont work

I might try and see can I get my 0047 into mode b again to make sure my setup is correct and then I will try the 0079fl again I didnt understand first time i read it I will try the other slax now. Tried the other slax now same thing as the other one just a different interface. Im not sure what to do. im getting a Ata2 Port is slow to respond, please be patient (Status 0xFF) where it should say spinning up disc.

well ive had it tell me that on a v78.
it would then go to the next port.
until it picked up the port that i had the drive in.
you may want to try the dvd drive in a different port.

Sorry for cutting in but the problem that I have with the 79fl is that everytime I try to flash it, it locks up my computer. I can get past the part where it tells me to use 79 unlock in command prompt but after that when I open 360 firmware toolbox and try to dump the original firmware my computer locks up, and the only way to get to respond it to cut off the 360(I am using the 360 to power the drive). Can anyone give any help or suggestions as to solving this problem. I am using the VIA 6421 PCI card. Thanks.

I've flashed two so far. Both times went off without a hitch so I haven't had to do any troubleshooting on the subject. I followed Textbooks video guide when I did them. If you haven't watched it, it may help.

ya I have read as many tutorials as possible Textbooks video and podger.pdf, the problem is getting it into mode b, i tried the resistor trick and I have used this method before and it has worked but no go with this one also tried both slax disk and the hotswap method.

When using slax, have you tried ejecting the drive when it gets to the point where it would ordinarily would say spinning up disks, but doesn't?

I have just ordered one of those but could anyone tell me only the methods that will work with the hitachi 0079fl like the 0078fk wont work with anything only slax?

the x360 usb to sata does not work with a v78 or the v79 drive.
the only way to get those drives in modeB is with slax.

have you tried all the sata ports in your computer.
for some reason my via 6421 card does not work for getting a v78 in modeB.
i have to use the onboard sata.

yes I have the via vt6421 aswell I think I tried one of my onboard sata ports already but it didnt work, I have a dell dimension 4600. would it be any good to use an other computer?

79 must go thru slax to initiate mode B... if you are having problems then you must either be doing something wrong or there is a mishap with your bios settings.

Trying another pc could square this...
but if you really want to isolate the problem from your main box it's just a process of elimination.

hmmm I have seen that video before but didnt pay close attention to when he was powering up the drive its right when slax has begun to load maybe thats my problem, I dont have the xbox as I was trying to do it for a mate so I gave it back to him so I could find out more about it. I was powering it from the xbox but i might get a connectivity kit instead. Thanks Msk

I would say make sure you have the drive powered as Slax is loading (ATA port 2 is picking something up, slax ain't sure what though). Try all your internal ports and make sure you have nothing else plugged into them. Somewhere in my BIOS settings, I had to change SATA mode to AHCI to get slax to work with any of the Hits
