Trouble Backing up Shrek The Third

Post by NeoRio »

Today I decided to backup my copy of Shrek The Third...but XBC (2.8) won't get past 45% of the reading process. The disc is still in great shape with no real scratches on it, just a few signs of wear. Has anyone else had trouble backing this game up? any ideas of what I can do to get it to backup? This is my first game that has given me trouble at the reading/ripping process.

Thanks

buff in a small amount of toothpaste or vasiline.

if that dosen't work then i guess you need another copy...or resurface it.

Thanks for the tips, those are interesting ideas. First I tried the Vaseline suggestion, buffed it in real good and it made the disc look brand new again...but it would not read past the 45% point (like before). Then I washed the Vaseline all off and tried toothpaste, buffed that in real good (more coarse than the Vaseline)...but it also would not work and got stuck at 45%.

Oh well.

I ended up taking it to Hollywood Video tonight to get it resufraced. The employee looked at the disc and told me right away that there was a "ding" on the disc that resurfacing might not fix. I hadn't noticed the tiny spec-of-a-ding before...so small, looked like a tiny drop of water, only tiny. There were no scratches on the disc, only that tiny spec. He was right...the resurfacing made the disc look brand new again, but did not totally get rid of the ding. I took it home and tried ripping it (thinking that I had possibly lost my original game!)...and thankfully it did a successful rip! I won't be letting my kids play this original anymore...only the copy from now on!

Thanks for your input.

yeah i've noticed that before aswell, in one dvd movie i have theres like a few dings in it, looks like a water drop or something and sure enough that movie wouldn't rip and also coincidently didn't rip past 45% either.

pretty werid lol.

anyway that's good news neo, i'm glad you got it.
