Back up flash?
Back up flash?
I've been doing lots of reading over the last few weeks and have checked out a bunch of tutorials which are awesome (http://www.robinhoodsplayground.com/for ... =110&t=137) but I have one silly question. Everyone talks about how important it is to backup the original flash but I haven't seen how to do it.I plan on using iprep to flash my benq drive, how do I make a backup of the flash? Im assuming I have to do this prior to using iprep. Thanks guys!
Re: Back up flash?
well man
you will build your iprep on the flash/floppy
then boot into dos
then you will dump/read the firmware in your 360 dvd drive.it will make a folder on the flash that is named backup(i think)
anyway there will be a folder on the flash/floppy that you will open after you open the folders your original bin will be in there.along with the hacked firmware.
YOU MUST SAVE THIS ORIGINAL FIRMWARE.(make a copy of this.)
in more than one place.off you computer also.

Re: Back up flash?
Thank you for the reply cofree! So if I understand this correctly, I can continue to flash the drive with the new firmware and since it created a folder on the USB Drive I can just save that original firmware off of the USB Drive once I am done?
Re: Back up flash?
you need to save a copy of your original firmware before you flash.after you have dump the firmware and before you try to flash you should check the firmware in toolbox v4.5 to make sure your key is good.as long as the key is good then you can reboot on the flash and do the flashing.

Re: Back up flash?
Cofree, you said that we need to save a copy of our original firmware before flashing, right. Well, can you flash first and then saved the original firmware (that's what I did). Did this mess up the original firmware?cofree wrote:you need to save a copy of your original firmware before you flash.after you have dump the firmware and before you try to flash you should check the firmware in toolbox v4.5 to make sure your key is good.as long as the key is good then you can reboot on the flash and do the flashing.
Re: Back up flash?
the reason you want to backup your orig firmware
if something happens while you are flashing and you loss the computer you 360 drive is junk at that point.if you have a good back some where you can get it back going with a different computer.
the other thing that is important is to check after the dump and make sure you key is good if you flash a drive with a bad key and dont have a good orig firmware.then guess what your drive is junk.
if it will play orig games and/or backup it should be fine.
make a copy of that orig firmware NOW.
email it to yourself and put it in a saved email folder never trash it.you may need it one day.
