A little help flashing my BenQ please....stuck on 0x7f

Post by Crof »

hey guys i have been running around online trying to figure out what im doing wrong but nothing seems to work. Im hoping someone here can help me out. i am attempting to flash my Benq drive. I have the rosewill 212 sata card. i DLed iprep v006 and all the latest DL's off of xbin. i watched and followed the iprep v006 tut and still am comeing up with the same issue.
the issue being
after booting off the usb stick going through all the y's and entering my xbox's serial number, i get stuck at 0x7f and i dont get the d1 or anything of the sort when i conn my sata cable and power on my drive.

any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks a lot.

ok, I've basically figured out that the dosflash status code of 0x7f means that the computer does not see the benq drive. I've researched a little and found a couple different things that worked for other people.

First, when you try the on, off, on approach, and you still get 0x7f, try just turning the drive off for about 5 seconds, then turn it back on and see if it starts giving you status codes then. If it does, then you can do off, then back on to get it to read.

Second, I read one post where the person trying to flash tried it on the second sata port. For what ever reason, iprep configured his for the number 2 port instead of the first port.

Then, are you using a sata card with the via 6421 chipset?

hey, yea my card has a via 6421 chipset and is one of the recommended cards to use for flashing. I tried using the card in all 4 ports 2 internal and 2 external with no luck, the status stays at 0x7f. I am trying to run this through iprep v006 but was previously trying to run it through dos the longer way. using the c:\>DosFlash r (port #) 1 a0 1 4 c:\orig.bin 0 command line. I only found the new iprep today. But, when i was running it the long way what i got was the same message, except that when i pug it in and turn the system on the code switched to 0x80 and would freeze on that.
i since then updated my drivers from the cards site and goten all the new drivers off of xbin. So this being my new problem .... 0x7f.... any more ideas guys? thiis is two days of me searching with no luck now. thanks.

I just used the rc-212 and it really is a good quality card. Try doing this:

(After installing drivers and setting up iprep)

1.boot usb
2. after u press y to accecpt, connect the sata cable from the internal port closest to the front of the pc.
follow directions and d1 should come up not problem
cofree is the best!

well i would say
freebeer is right dont hook up the sata cable till the computer is on and in dos

sadalius is right the computer is not seeing the card
you say that your sata card has 4 ports(rc-212) :?: .we will be working with the one inside and closest to the front of your computer
stay with that port till all opinions have been tryed then you will do it all over using the next sata port.ect...

try a different sata cable
try a different pci slot in your computer
try a different usb flash drive
try using the floppy

i woyld do these 4 thing at each sata port.then if you have to then on to the bad stuff

now this gets bad.
try a different sata card
try a different computer.

i would say do it just the way i do in the video.

even if it boot on the flash it still could be that the flash wont let the information flow in from the 360 drive.not all flashes will work(most will)
you have tried a floppy drive.

check your drivers: http://www.viaarena.com/Driver/vraid_driver_v550b.zip
if you dont have these then you might want to install them. install the drivers and not the utility.

Is there any way to check my card and that specific port im plugging it into without the xbox? just to check if it works fine and the card works fine and all?

ok i installed the newest drivers online for my rosewill 212 card. it throws an icon in the toolbar saying the detected items hooked up to it. when i just put in the xbox it didnt detect it. but now i put in my dvd drive and xbox and it is detecting both. But, tryed to flash and no luck. tryed leaving it on before it and no luck.... still getting 0x7f how is it saying this (wich i asume to mean undetected) if it is aparently detecting it......? any more ideas guys? at least i know the card works now...

Are you sure you are picking up the proper sata card when you are using iprep? The drop down menu may show other sata choices if you have onboard sata (built into motherboard)
