Re: Replace a Hitachi 79fl drive with a Samsung ms28
well i would try to go with the same kind of dvd drive that was in the console to start with a v79.
but
if that is something that cant be done then you have to spoof the v28 dvd drive to report that it is a v79 hit dvd drive.
that way the console will think it has a v79 dvd drive in it instead of the v28.
here is a guide on doing that.

after reading over that if you have a question just post.

Re: Replace a Hitachi 79fl drive with a Samsung ms28
as cofree said try getting the same drive and if its the laser or the motor you are talking about then just get the same drive and replace the motherboard from the old one to the new one if the motherboard of the old drive is working fine. this way you dont need to touch the firmware again. but if you cant find the same one then just follow cofree;s linlk

man
you are all over the place i not sure what you are asking.
the only way you can just replace the pcb board in a dvd drive is if its the same dvd drive.

no you can swap to any drive & apply a spoof (to fake it as the original model)beetle wrote:i dont know man, i was slightly confused and tired,CoFree wrote:man

i understand what your saying tho, that it has to be the same drive, for instance, i have an hitachi 79FL so i'll need the exact same drive, in this case the hitachi 79FL.
but i was wondering if it would matter that the drive i want is a 59DJ but still an hitachi,
whats got me confused is i heard that as long as its the same model version ( GDR-3120L ) it should work.
i thought you meant that it would only work if you had the same drive but any version, as in, buying the hitachi ,rather than a benq or samsung, for it to work
my advice would be not to replace with a hit - they are the most unreliable disc readers in my opinion... I would go for a an ms28 or a Benq (if u can find 1)

u will of course need to dump the original drive // obtain the key
then dump the new drive & inject the original key into the new drives dumped firmware & apply the spoof info - then flash it

Re: Replace a Hitachi 79fl drive with a Samsung ms28
if you are going to spoof a dvd drive
just take you time and ask question if you are not 100% sure of what is going on.
keep a copy of the original key and/or firmware that came in your 360.
dont lose that not mater what.
