Installing a new ms28 drive and flashing help.
Re: Installing a new ms28 drive and flashing help.
Yeah, the light on the xbox will flash if the sata cable isn't connected to the dvd drive and the motherboard. That is normal. Only other thing I could think of would be to allow a little more time on the 10 second trick, maybe 12 or 13 seconds? CoFree, can you think of anything else? I'm starting to suspect that drive of being damaged somehow if the new one dumps fine.

The new one does the same.
ITs not the drive.

Re: Installing a new ms28 drive and flashing help.
what are you using to boot from.
how big,what kind.
give us all the info you can come up with.
have you tried a different usb flash and/or a floppy to boot from.
there are some flash drive that will not let the firmware dump.

Re: Installing a new ms28 drive and flashing help.
I have flashed it once. I have the sam-ofw/cfw from teh flash on my desktop. I have had goes myself without knowing what I was doing, which isn't the best idea I know.
As for the drive I am using, its a kingston 1gb. Again I have used this to flash once already.
I do recall as I was doing the 10 second trick the Xbox powered off instantly where as now it takes about 5 seconds.

Replied.
And no I don't.

Re: Installing a new ms28 drive and flashing help.
Are you sure that you picked the right sata port in iprep? Are you using the same setup as you did when you first flashed it? Anything changed about the iprep setup on the thumb drive? Maybe just scrape it and create it fresh.

If the drive is locked & the 10 second trick will not work then use the enable 0800 disc to unlock it
dump the drive & open the hacked or original firmware in "firmware toolbox" & verify the key is valid (not all FFF's, CCC's, 000's etc.)
If good then inject the original key into the firmware dump taken from the new drive with firmware toolbox & then flash it via iprep
if bad then dump again until success with key - then follow steps above

Re: Installing a new ms28 drive and flashing help.
what exactly is the enable 0800 disk, where do I get it and how do I use it?

Th0rn0 wrote:what exactly is the enable 0800 disk, where do I get it and how do I use it?
you will find it with older revisions of xtreme firmware in the xbins archives (Xtreme40.rar)Enable0800 ISO
Description The 0800 disc is used on Toshiba-Samsung Xbox 360 drives to make the drive visible in Windows. Then, the drive can be used to backup games.
Another feauture of this disc is on v4.x firmwares or later, it will also disable the FirmGuard protection!!! Which is required in order to upgrade your firmware or restore your firmware on your Samsung drive.
or use a simple google search: http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q= ... 0800&meta=" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

its basicly inserting the disc for 5-10 seconds then ejecting it // complete instructions come with it...

Re: Installing a new ms28 drive and flashing help.
The original drive wont eject the disk tray and it wont read disks.
Re: Installing a new ms28 drive and flashing help.
You might have to take the drive apart and take the magnet out of the lid so you can manually put the disk in, but the 0800 mode disk is worth a shot. The only other thing you could try to do is swap the circuit boards from the drives. Considering the problems with the original drive isn't anything to do with the circuit board that is.

Re: Installing a new ms28 drive and flashing help.
Ok I tired the enable0800 but the drive wont even eject. I did notice the lights on the front of the Xbox. it lights 1 light out of the ring and then lights the 2nd light (in a clockwise direction when the xbox is laid down) red. However when the drive is not plugged in its ok. So I suspect its the drive. I then tried the new drive and it does the same.
This only happens when the SATA cable to the drive is plugged in.

well start the console with the sata hooked upTh0rn0 wrote:it lights 1 light out of the ring and then lights the 2nd light (in a clockwise direction when the xbox is laid down) red
the when the red lights come on get the error code.
like this.
The specific type of hardware failure can be determined by a "hidden" error code
* Turn the xbox 360 on, and wait till the 3 red lights are flashing.
* Press and hold the sync up button (the small white one), while holding that button press the eject button.
* The LEDs will now blink the first number in the code (as described below).
* Release the eject button and press it again.
* The LEDs will now blink the second number of the code.
* Release the eject button and press it again.
* The LEDs will now blink the third number of the code.
* Release the eject button and press it again.
* The LEDs will now blink the forth number of the code.
* Release the eject button and press it again.
* The LEDs will go back to the 3 red flashing lights.
You should be able to determine the difference between the 3 flashing lights and the error code lights by the rate in which they flash.
Here is how you interpret the LEDs to get the code number:
* All four lights flashing - 0
* One light flashing - 1
* Two Lights flashing - 2
* Three lights flashing - 3
that would have been some good info to have from the start
