Need help restoring/ flashing
Need help restoring/ flashing
First off I am working with a BenQ drive using iPrep. I tried to flash, seemed to go ok, it read all the banks but will not read an original or back up disc. So lucky for me I did stop and make a copy of my original FW. I have it, and it reads in Toolbox and matches what I also wrote down. So I decided to start all over and at least get the original FW loaded and start from scratch again. I made 2 folders, named them correctly and the copied/pasted the original FW to the last folder, just like I have of my original folders. Question is, there are 2 files in my original, one named OFW ( I know thats the original) and one named CFW. I have tried restoring both ways, first with just the OFW and once with the OFW AND the CFW. When I type rben and the serial number it says on the screen that it will restore the original FW if the file exists and if not the process will abort. Thats as far as I can get in the process. What am I doing wrong? Suggestions, help appreciated.
Also when I read the original FW with toolbox, it asks if I would like to restore the key to the original FW file, do I need to do that? I was afraid to do so incase it might screw up my chances of me going an further.

Re: Need help restoring/ flashing
well if you got a good dump of your firmware when you load it in firmware tool bow it should put your key in the field for the key.
have a read over this restore.
do this after you check your ofw for a good key.

Re: Need help restoring/ flashing
Yes, I read that guide before. I guess I am unfamiliar on what Toolbox is supposed to be doing and how to tell if it's good. I open the Original FW in toolbox, it puts the key in a box below. It then says to in type or paste key (but it's already there), I hit replace key and it says OK. Is that the way of telling the original FW is good? If so, like I said I have 2 files OFW and CFW. Do I need to do this for both? Or just the OFW and ONLY put that into my back up folder?
The key is not a bunch of similar numbers/letters, it's what I got off the screen form the original "attempt" flash.

Re: Need help restoring/ flashing
all you do to check a key is put the firmware in firmware toolbox.the key that is in the "key"box is the key that is in the firmware.you dont need to replace anything as long as that is your key.
then you should just need to do the restore.
yes you will just put the 1 firmware in that folder
you rename that firmware
go buy the guide

Re: Need help restoring/ flashing
OK, thats what I have been doing. The only thing that I did different this time was I renmed the file. Really it was already named benq-ofw except it was in CAPS. I tried the restore and same thing. After I type rben and serial, it says it will restore the original FW if it's not the FW the process will be aborted, and then I get another command prompt. Nothing else happens. BTW thanks for help so far

Re: Need help restoring/ flashing
well it sounds like your computer is not seeing the dvd drive.
start over build a new iprep boot flash drive.
then make the folder and all
make sure you have the sata cable on the right port.

Re: Need help restoring/ flashing
Funny you say that. I did the original flash ( a few eeks ago) with a Nvidia chipset. In Iprep it shows me having 3 Nvidia controllers. I really have 6 sata ports in all. I wasn't sure what one to use, I tries all 6 ports and still no luck with any. Since the flash went "bad" I said screw it and bought a PCI VIA SATA controller. The 2 external ports are jumpered off and the 2 internal are on. I will try using the other port on the card and see what happens.
Re: Need help restoring/ flashing
on a sata pci card
it should be the port closest to the front of the computer.

Re: Need help restoring/ flashing
I just took the card out and enabled the other 2 ports. All 4 ports are active now. They call port A, thats in the back. I'm assuming this is port 1, the correct one to use? Trying it out now.
Re: Need help restoring/ flashing
I tried moving th jumpers around and can't get a HD recognized on the system. SO, I moved jumpers to the mat it came to enable ports c,D which are the 2 inside. Before all this I was using the one closest to the front like you had said. I can get a HD hooked up to any other SATA port on my board fine. It's obviously a card issue at this point. Think I should even bother trying to get it to work? or go back to the Nvidia chipset. Do you know what I was talking about the Nvidia thing in iPrep it showing me 3 chipsets? Either way this SUCKS lol

Re: Need help restoring/ flashing
with the nvidia chipset, you want the first port...
a good way to check what port is what, is with Maximus' Xtractor reader
I have a problem flashing the benq with my nforce when I have my SATA set to anything but AHCI, it might be worth looking in your BIOS and seeing what yours is set to...
When I flash I always get 2 dumps of the FW and check the key matches in both of them, just to be safe...
As long you have a good key from your orig fw then this can be sorted
