Lite-On? Benq? Which is it?
Lite-On? Benq? Which is it?
I got a new 360 Arcade and would like to flash the drive. I've taken it apart, but I'm having trouble figuring out what kind of drive it is, because the information online has been conflicting. The drive says "Philips & Lite-on Digitial Solutions Corporation". It has two yellow wires in the hole (at least they look yellow).
I downloaded iXtreme 1.5 via torrent. It has three bin files: ix15Benq.bin, ix15-liteon.bin, ix15-sam.bin.
I'm also having trouble even reading the drive's firmware. My mobo is M2N-SLI. It has "NVIDIA nForce 570 SLI" for its chipset. I boot into dos from my external USB drive and run dosflash. Sometimes the status will start at 0x80, othertimes 0x7F. When I turn on the XBox 360, sometimes it goes to 0x80 and then 0xD1 when I hit something on the keyboard, or it'll flash between 0xD2 and some other number (that ends in 2).
I can't do anything from Windows, because when I attach the 360's DVD drive and turn it on in Windows XP, XP chokes and BSoDs. So, for now, I'm stuck trying things in DOS.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Re: Lite-On? Benq? Which is it?
with nforce SATA, make sure you have your BIOS set to SATA, not AHCI. If you don't you'll get BSOD everytime you turn the drive on...
If it's a benq, you should be able get a dump from this MB, with the lite on, you'll have to extract the key first. I'm pretty sure it says that on the lite on...

And if at first you don't succeed..? Order the damn card!

Mirc is a place to chat, post up on the site for help!!!
Re: Lite-On? Benq? Which is it?
man
most of the stuff you posted is bad
fist you need to get you hacked firmware from xbixs)the source) not download it
you can not just get the key from lite-on dvd drive you have some work to do before.
you have to use a spear or probe of some kind
or you can solder the 707tx point
then using a ck3 you van get the info you need to dump the files you need.
here is a video on the lite-on

Re: Lite-On? Benq? Which is it?
Thank you for the replies. I eventually conceded to this being a Lite-on drive. How depressing
I'm in the process of building an RS-232 to TTL circuit. Luckily I have a bunch of transistors and such laying around so I'll give it a shot and hope for the best.
I'm using this tutorial to read the key. Is all that information correct?
I obviously don't have CK3. If I follow the tutorial I linked, will everything work okay? I only need the level converter to get the key, right? And then I can disconnect it and just use the SATA connection and dosflash to erase and write the new firmware?
Sorry if these are stupid questions. I've been reading a lot of information, but unfortunately most of it is conflicting.
Thank you for your patience and help.

yea
that looks fine
let us know how it goes.

Re: Lite-On? Benq? Which is it?
Quick question. The CK3 tutorials all have only a probe on the TX connection. Does that mean only the TX connection on the DVD drive is necessary to extract the DVD key? If that's the case, a full blown RS-232/TTL converter isn't necessary. Is the TX on the DVD drive for transmitting _to_ the drive, or _from_ the drive? If it's for transmitting from the drive to the computer, it can be connected directly to the serial port on my computer, since most computers are fine with 0 to 3.3V levels on the RS-232 port.
I'll keep building this circuit in the meantime. Thank you again!

Re: Lite-On? Benq? Which is it?
the tx is "from the drive to the computer"
at first they were think we would need the rx to flash but we dont
the flash goes in the sata port
that is the only point i solder when i dump the key and file from he dvd drive.
the tx 707 point.

Re: Lite-On? Benq? Which is it?
Now, you say tx707. The tutorial I linked says the pad that is above that 707 point. The area with 3 pads (TX, RX, and GND. 3.3 is near there, but not a metal pad). Does it matter which point?
So, am I correct in assuming I can just hook the TX straight to the computer? I do it all the time with my PICs. The computer should be fine with 0-3.3V levels coming in on the RS-232 port. The only problem is that DvdKey will need to be hacked to invert the data (I believe).*
* I believe since it won't be using a level shifter, the 0 from the DVD drive will come out as 1 on the computer. Not sure though.

Re: Lite-On? Benq? Which is it?
at the 707
there is a small hole that the guys are using a spear or probe in.
or you can just solder bridge the 707 points back together.
im not real sure about the way you are going to do it man.

Re: Lite-On? Benq? Which is it?
According to dvdkey's readme:
Connecting the drive's 707 hole directly to my computer's RS-232 RX results in a stream of data, although not 00s and 01s. It could be because the data is coming in inverted. I'll just need to hack up a circuit to invert the signal and give it another try.For rs232 troubleshuting, consider that Liteon by default outputs an endless stream of 0x00 and 0x01 at 115200 8N1, you should see it with Realterm with display set to hex
Re: Lite-On? Benq? Which is it?
I found this tutorial for getting the liteon key without CK3 and without MAX3232. It uses one transistor and two resistors. I had been trying to do the same thing, but I couldn't for the life of my get the drive ejected properly. Plus I was using the wrong version of dvdkey. Following that tutorial and someone else's steps for extracting the key, I finally got my key. I did it 3 times with the same results.
Here are the steps I followed after I had the level shifter working.
1) Power on my computer, boot to DOS off USB flash drive. 360 is OFF. level shifter is connected to the PC, but not the drive. SATA is disconnected. No other drives are connected to my computer. I used a molex from my computer to provide 5V and GND to the level shifter. (red wire is 5V. Black is GND. I used a 4 pin molex)
2) Power on 360.
3) Get ready to pull power cable that goes from the drive to the 360 mobo. Loosen it (not too much).
4) Eject the drive and pull the drive's power when it's half open. Gotta be quick! (use eject button on 360)
5) Remove the wire going to pin 3 (some call it 9). It's next to the empty holes on the connector. I just pulled it out. Doesn't seem to damage it, since I can put it back in. If you pulled the right wire, the drive tray will stay where it is when you reconnect power.
6) With the 360 still on, reconnect the drive's power. I had the A/V cable attached to the 360 (wasn't plugged into the TV, though) to keep it on.
7) Connect SATA to computer (from drive)
8) Connect probe to R707
9) Run DVDkey with sata address
To do it three times I simply disconnected SATA and R707 and pulled the drive's power (360 still on). Rebooted my computer and continued from step 6. For one of the times I did that, but did not reboot and simply connected the SATA cable to a different port. That worked too, but I had to reboot to do it the third time in the original port.
P.S. I also went into my BIOS and set the raid controlled to AHCI (if I recall correctly). It was under the chipset settings and was set to IDE by default. Windows doesn't recognize one of my drives if I boot into it in that mode, though. So I changed it to that just for DOS and dvdkey, and changed it back when I was done.
Hope that helps someone in my same shoes. Basically just read through the entire thread I linked above. All the information is scattered throughout it.

Re: Lite-On? Benq? Which is it?
The next step I need to do is build the firmware and flash the drive. I can't find any good tutorials for doing so. I need to erase/flash in DOS (so no JungleFlasher), and I can't use iPrep because I've already got the keys (no need to dump them again), but no dummy.bin (I used dvdkey 1.2).
I'm looking around right now, but if anyone has instructions or knows where a good tutorial is, the help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
EDIT: Looks like I got dummy.bin and Lite_CFW.bin from JungleFlasher now (did it on my laptop while my desktop awaits the flashing process). So, I just need to figure out how to erase and flash this firmware in DOS. Perhaps I can use iprep for that, but I heard the latest version was buggy. :/

Re: Lite-On? Benq? Which is it?
build a boot flash and flash it in dos from there
