FirmWare Toolbox Freeze while flashing Hitachi 79

Post by SpitfireSparks »

Hey guys, I am flashing an xbox 360 with a hitachi 79 drive, but we are running into problems with the Firmware toolbox program freezing while the dumping is occuring. I am kinda stuck and not sure where to go from here

Is the drive unlocked successfully, and the drive is populated in Windows??

If you're getting this with a dump, I'd be very careful when it comes to the flash... The one hit I had go bad on me (47DJ) was irrepairable, something to do with the flash procedure on the hits...

we need to know a little more of what you've done/tried, give us a step by step of what you've done so far

sounds like a problem with your controller - not a good sign // as lilrev says if u have problems dumping then it's risky to flash!

what sata controller are u using?
what version of windows are u using??

Are you unlocking the drive correctly with the unlock tool??

Hello,

I am the one helping Spitfire Sparks... Anyways, yes we are using the SLAX 2.1 cd to put the drive into mode B and then we are using the 79Unlock cd with the audio file to unlock the drive. Once done with that we go in to the command prompt and use the 79Unlock tool which works and states "Done!" when finished. It is after that where we run into the dumping problem. I insert a retail game (Fallout 3), and I have also tried a retail movie, anyways I wait until the drive recognizes the disk in windows explorer before I proceed further.

We have used Firmware Toolbox 4.6 and 4.8 and both versions freeze up when you click "RAW dump as" or whatever. When I click "Classic Dump" the program says that it cannot read from the disc.

I dont know guys....I am kinda lost at this point. Is there anything that I am forgetting about, or anything that I should also be doing?

The steps seem to fine to me...

If you're not having any problems up to the dump, it's something to do with the controller (or it's settings). Are you using onboard SATA (if so what controller) or a VIA card.

You should be fine with the onboard for hits if your SATA can work in legacy mode, this basically means your SATA ports show up as 'Standard Dual Channel PCI Controller' in Devce Manager. Check your BIOS settings relating SATA to check this.

If you can't get anything after this, then I would recommend trying on a different computer, and picking up a VIA card if you haven't already got one. But don't even think of a flash 'til you get a couple of matching dumps without any freezes or errors, as you probably know by now your 360 is a nifty paperweight/DVD player without a good key for the CFW
