dump & erase Lite-On from via or mobo

Post by fozzy1970 »

Hi guys, i am all ready to go flashing the lite-on drive. Ck3, probe etc. Does the drive have to be erased and flashed with my via or can onboard sata be used? Does it depend on the onboard sata as with the sammy's?. I have via 6421 sata as have been flashing drives for a while, just need confirmation. I appologise if this has already been answered somewhere. Thanks in advance ;)

No worries fozzy, can't blame you for wanting to make sure. If it were me, I'd use the VIA card, but I would use the latest iprep to do it though. A lot of people have problems with the VIA card polling the drive just after clicking lite-on erase in jungleflasher. If that happens, the PC will lock up and you'll end up having to flash the drive in DOS anyway.

The only extra thing you'll need to do it with iprep is a straight through 9 pin RS-232 cable with a male connector on one end and a female connector on the other. This is because there is no USB support in DOS so you'll have to connect using the RS-232 cable and your PC's serial port.

Hi Guys I'm back!!! not going too well at the moment, decided to take a break and post my question. I have got the drive connected and am running dvdkey32 i get the inquiry.bin and identify.bin but the key keps coming back as all 0's. I have tried the tray in loads of positions but it doesn't seem to make any difference. The serial cable is recognised and in jungle flasher the drive and ports are there. Any help would be much appreciated guys, thnx in advance

If you're getting a green light on your probe, then the only thing it can be is the tray...

Thnx for the swift reply guys, green light on probe is fine, tried turning drive off then on again, didn't seem to make a difference. Just out of curiosity how far do you guys have the tray closed? also something which isn't that clear is the eject switch position on the ck3, i am ejecting the drive, powering off, closing tray manually, then powering back on? I am calling it a night now or i will be there all night. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated as always. Cheers Guys ;)

I think you're missing a step there. I always open the drive, then push eject to close the drive. As soon as the drive tray starts to move, power it down. Then set the drive to halfway (or wherever you're trying it), then power the drive back on.

I'm pretty sure to get the key, the drive needs to be (half) open, but think it's shut

The drive does have to be about half open. I also tested 3 different methods for the drive tray which all worked:
1. eject tray with ck3, push push half way in
2. eject tray with ck3, close with ck3 and cut the power
3. manually open the dvd tray half way

I was able to extract the key with all of these methods.

:D Hey guys good news, ITS ALIVE!!!!. Tried different tray positions for an hour. Wasn't quite convinced it should take this long, so popped over to a pals who has a serial-usb cable which i borrowed. Got back and managed to get key 1st time :D, so the com port on my mobo is the suspect at the moment.I dumped the key over and over to make sure, pefect every time :D . Not only that but i locked up the drive during erase and followed Cofree's tut on recovering and flashing in dos. Worked 1st time have just got the drive back in box and works like a dream ;) . I would like to give a big big thanks to Cofree, Sadalius, lilrevuk and onyxx for taking the time to reply to my posts. Keep up the great job guys :D :D
