It would be good to have a copy of it. If for nothing else, should you want to go back to your stock firmware. If it were me, I would definitely get a copy or your original.

they come out with firmware updates sometimes.
if you do get someone to do it ask them what they will charge to update when a new update comes out.

it is possible that you could screw up your box if your flashing it yourself, but as long as you have a copy of your original, you can always use it to just flash back.

they come out with f/w updates several times a year usually. if your not going to be playing on live, then you can pretty much hack it once and never worry about it. but if you are playing on live, then updating becomes a must in order to minamize the chance of getting banned.

I was going to try and play online but from what ive read theres lots of banning going on no matter what you use so im leaning towards flash once and just play with myself...LOL

Most everyone thinks that its the method in which people make their backups that get them banned. See, the game disks doesn't have game data only on it. It has security features as well that must be copied as well. You'll here terms such as the SS, DMI, PFI and video layers. These are part of those security features. Sometimes, people use an old way of making their backups that do not have these security features copied along with the game data. Some of the older firmwares, the ones that are named xtreme can boot these just as well as the backups that have these features in them. In some cases, the features don't get copied right. In these cases, a person that plays a game like this online stands a very good chance of getting "flagged" as playing a backup because not having these features, or features that were copied wrong are easy for Microsoft to detect.

As long as you make proper backups and check them with the proper software, you should be safe online. There is not guarantee of this though. And all I can say is that I know some people thats been playing online for over a year now and not been banned.

The decision to do it yourself is up to you. But, if you do it yourself, I think you'll appreciate it more and be able to do any updates that you might want to take all youself.
