8x vs 12x ixtreme

Hi guys, I was wondering if there is a big performance difference between the 12x drive firmware and the 8x, or if it's a noticeable difference. I have ixtreme v1.3 at 12x, and it's really loud. When I flash up to v1.4 I was considering going with 8x to make it quieter, but I didn't know if there is a performance difference. Thanks.

5.1 surround sound so load i cant here my wife if she was yelling in my ear.
