the idea behind the penny or eraser trick are the same. applies more pressure to the chips so when it heats up they are moved back into a good connection with the board. sonmetimes when doing a repair u can actually push on certain part of the board and video will appear again(not rrod) and when u let go it disapears. i prefer eraser over penny cause they have some give to them and absorb heat

ight cool, you make a valid point on me not going to be out of anything if i try, cause i definitely checked again last night and all i get is audio, no video and i opened it up during the day and little did that do because theres really nothing to see. . . can't send it in because it's definitely out of warranty, so yeap a new one is the next step

Am i wrong or cant a key be retreived from the CFW currently on the drive? OFW and CFW should have the same keys in them since we read the key from OFW to insert into CFW correct? but i guess if the drive is damaged and it cant be retrieved that is a different story, then youl would need the OFW file to have the key.

yes
the key should be in the "ofw" and the "cfw"
and it will be the same key.It has to be the same key for the console to play games.

so this would come in handy in a case of spoofing this samsung drive into another console. i've seen you instruct other people to rename the cfw.bin to ofw.bin and proceed from there. . . that the case? and if so do i just do a dSam to get the cfw.bin which is what i would rename ofw.bin :?:

well im not sure what you are asking.
if you cant get that console working with video then the key dont matter.
the key is tied to the console.
if you cant get that console working just save the dvd drive ,but the key that was in that drive will no longer matter.

if you were going to use that drive in a working console then you would need the working console dvd drive key.

wow
i hope you were able to keep up with that
haha :D

hahaha yea i was able to keep up.

ight so basically, we know the video doesn't work, but the drive still works because i hear it load up games because the audio still plays. . . now with that being said i never backed up the firmware when i modded the drive. (dumb! i know) will that drive still be able to be used in another console?

yes that drive will work in abother console and the current key in that drive will not matter. however you would need the key from the new working console that this drive would be going into, that key from the working console would need to be put into the drive in order for it to work.

Keys are in the consoles motherboard and the dvd drive. for the dvd drive to "talk" to the motherboard it has to have the same key as the motherboard, if it doesnt then u might get movies to play but no 360 games. the only way to get the key from the motherboard is with some type of chip which is not worth it if u ask me. so that is why we always get the key from the dvd drive cause it is easier access, this means if the drive is damaged and key cannot be retrieved u are usually screwed. so when u get a working console that needs a new drive you will need the key from the old drive in order for the new drive to work.
