original drive key retrievable? benq upgrade question also

Post by Kanobi »

simple question....maybe not

on my benq drive,I flashed my drive in dos using iPrep. i didn't save a backup of the drive key or the original FW. I lost it or deleted it unknowingly.

Is there any method for retrieving it?

I've only flashed it once, using the 1.4 ixtreme FW.

Reason i ask the question, is i'm wanting to flash it to 1.51. I've never done a upgrade. My next question is, do i need to wipe off 1.4 ixtreme FW with the original FW and original drive key in order to upgrade to 1.51 ixtreme?

Much appreciation to anyone ahead of time for your help.

Yeah, it's retrievable. Just treat it like it has never been flashed before and use the latest iprep and you'll have ixtreme 1.51 before no time. iprep will dump the drive, get the key from the firmware and create a new firmware and flash it back just like you did the first time you flashed it.

This is awesome news! Thanks for the quick reply! If u don't mind me asking, when i use the iprep program off the usb drive, is it going to save the drive key and original FW bin to the jump drive? If so, do i just copy and save the folders from the desktop of windows to an area in which i won't forget, lose?

Thanks again!

you got it man. when iprep dumps the drive it will save it to your flash drive or whatever you made with iprep to boot from. It will save your original firmware as well as the hacked firmware. You can get the key from loading the original or the hacked firmware with firmware toolbox 4.8. It will show you the key.

Again...this being a drive that i've already flashed with 1.4ixtreme and getting ready to load to 1.51iXtreme.

I could run iprep 8.8 (whichever is the latest iprep program) using a usb drive
it'll than make an original firmware file along with a make a backup of my drive key to my usb drive
restart computer and go into windows
stick usb drive in usb port, copy the backup files/folders that were created from iprep in dos
now run Firmware toolbox 4.8 program
load firmware file (either hacked or original)
Than i should get the key info! Is this correct?

In the process of loading firmware file for fmtoolbox 4.8, if i use the hacked firmware file, do i get a hacked drive key, or is it still the original/correct drive key for my benQ?

In the case of using fmtoolbox 4.8, do i need to have the xbox connected to the computer at the time?

Thanks again!!

You yourself don't really need the key for anything other than to verify that it's a good key. When you use iprep, you'll use the dben command to get a dump of the drive. In that process iprep will dump the drive and put a copy of the ofw on the flash drive. It will also create the hacked firmware and put it on the flash drive as well. Then reboot into windows and use firmware toolbox to open the ofw, it will show you the key. Make sure it's good, copy it into notepad and save it or whatever you want to do. Then boot back to the flash drive and run the fben command to flash the hacked firmware to the drive.

once again man, thanks.

Sorry for being a pest, it's just that i usually like to ask a question in three ways, just to make sure of things.

Thanks for the help once again!
