check this out. . . viewtopic.php?f=101&t=2962

E74: There is high chance it's a scaler chip problem (the "ANA" or "HANA" chip near the AV cable connection) it can also be caused by a faulty AV cable so check that first. In some cases it is a problem with the GPU and may be repairable by doing the x-clamp replacement (see error 0102)

well i used the thermal tape that you see the guy in the tutorial using, it's already on the xbox once you pull the mother board out and flip it around.

I have bought 4 or 5 360's with the E74 error-1 red light. All have been fixed with the x-clamp fix and overheating the gpu with a heatgun on high for about 20-30 seconds.I am also finding out that this is not a permanent fix,as it will again get hot an get the error again at some piont.Only one now has been working for three months without re-erroring.But I've also found on one that got the error 4 times in a month, that buy adding an extra 360 fan I had to the opposite side of the hard drive and wiring it to a 12v power adapter then putting it on a power strip with the xbox that it has worked perfectly now for quite some time.If you can keep it cool then I think it will last.Hope this helps.

This is the one... pressure on the scaler chip, and temperature regulation is the only way to keep e74 away. The chip moves like the GPU does when the board flexes when heated/cooled, so the only way is to keep it cool once you have applied whatever fix you are trying.

The scaler chip is under the windtunnel from the fans to the processor...

If you have the case open and are able to see the top of the motherboard, you can simply pull out the board. Make sure you remove your power button, drive, wind tunnel, and fans first though.

holy shit man :D :D :D :D
wait let me catch my breath
oh my god man.
I'm dieing here.
I love it man :D :D :D :D :D :D
wow what a video. :o :o :o :o :o :o

ok now to work.
always have the dvd drive in the console before you turn it on.
always have the fan wind tunnel in the console before you turn it on.

that was neve going to work man
you do the penny trick on the bottom of the mobo they push presser on the chip and sometimes it will work.
the xclamp may fix it also.
did you look at this penny trick video.
