Problems Flashing My Hitachi GDR3120 79FL Drive

Post by Cybertech »

Hi, I would really appreciate some help, Getting quite frustrated trying to flash my Stock Hitachi GDR3120 79FL Drive.
The drive works and plays xbox games fine.
I have followed the video on Youtube, ref Hitachi drive flashing by Cofree.
Best video I have found by far. Anyway I have used Jungle flasher1.51 and the 1.55, I have reinstalled my portIO32 and disabled my via 6421 card, Im running windows Xp service pack 2, Net framework ver 2.0
When I use Jungle flasher with my connectivity kit 3, powered on,blue light, sata connected to my pc mother board and all switched on. The drive opens and closes with ck3 button.
I then load jungle flasher either version, as JF loads it comes up with No Comports were found during enumertion, tab asks me to click ok, then continues to load.Under the Hitachi GDR3120 tab I can see my drive in port properties.
When run JF and send mode B , the drive answers the windows inquiry and lists a string of numbers and then says mode B done.
In the screen Port IO option is selected, 79/78 is selected, ram upload is selected,79 unlock selected.
I have already before starting JF loaded all the firmware in JF firmware folder.
I then select Flash ixtreme, sector list reports Calculated at run time ..... I then Hit the Flash Hacked F/W button.
I then get this message in the bottom message screen which reads: Flashing Hacked f/w to Hitachi 0078/0079 by Ram Upload Method over port IO Dumping Flash: Ram Upload - Execute Failed
I have tried this several times now, rebooting the pc, reconnecting the drive and connectivity key, running both versions of JF and reinstalling PortIo32 I have done this manually and check device manager that there are no errors, Device manager just shows my Via 6421 card disabled, I have Net framework ver 2.0 installed did have 3.5 but took it back to 2.0
Anyone who would like to IM me and give my a talk through would be fantastic.

Please Please any help would be great.
Kind Regards
Chris

Yea, CoFree is 100% right. You have to download and burn the 79 unlock disk. Just after getting the drive in mode b, you have to put that 79 unlock disk into the 79, then click the 79 unlock button. When it's done, it will eject the disk and you'll get a message that it was successful, or something similar. Then you can hit Flash ixtreme and it should work form there.

I have downloaded Unlock79, burned the cue file and made a cd Disc using imageburn. I have then put the disc in the Hitachi drive by opening it with the ck3 in mode b. setting mode B in JF 1.51 The disc wont launch media player. I have checked the disc in another pc drive and it launches ok. Cant get it to work, this is really frustrating now.
any help please.
I am online now AOL instant Messenger if anyone fanceys a chat: cybertech1963

When using jungleflasher, it won't launch a media player. It does it through jungleflasher. Watch the white section at the bottom of jungleflasher. It should say something like playing for 500MS, pausing, ejecting disk.

Hi Guys, I just want to say a massive thanks to Cofree and Sadalius for all your help, Hitachi GD3120 now flashed and working great.I had not unlocked the drive, and was not aware that JF would do the unlocking with out media player launching. I unlocked it in manual mode, 1st hit on the button said error in unlocking, second hit it worked fine. Then I proceeded with the firmware flash. Works a dream done it in about 15mins, only spent 3 days trying to find out how to do it.
Thanks again guys. Now going to flash my Lite-on with xecuter kit 3 and probe. Probably be another 3 days with this one. may call on your help again.
Kind regards
Chris
