Red Ring of Death

Post by staningrimsby »

i guys,

I had an E74 error on my 360 with 1 red light, i did the x-clamp replacement as i have for loads of people in the past,
and when i re-connected it i now have 3 red lights, oh lucky me its just my luck  .

The problem is when i switched it on the fans operate for a matter of a few seconds then stop and the power brick turns orange but the 3 red lights still flash, i have not seen it do this before so does anybody please have any ideas how i can cure it ???

regards
Stan.

What secondary error code do you get?? You can find this out by holding the wireless button in, then pressing the eject key... Do this four times to find your error code...

I would imagine you have either tightened the bolts on your xclamp fix too much, or not enough. Generally, the 3 lights are caused by the board not being flat, which means the GPU is not sitting correctly on the heatsinks. I t can be for other things, but in your case I would assume that's why it's changed from 1 to 3 lights.

Try loosning them off, try them hand tight to start with. Then tighten each a quarter turn and try again...

This may shed some light onto your 0002 error:

EDIT Backslash
I just kind of skimmed through it, and noticed there is some pretty good info, so you may be able to learn something from it.

We don't mind linking off site as long as its relavant and not something that is questionable in nature. Xboxhacker.net is a great site for infos and such. But they are not so noob friendly over there though.

:O I thought as long as the link pertains to the topic its cool.
I shall be more cautious in the future.

That thread seems a bit more noob friendly, theres lots of pictures etc.

If there is a guide here

heatsinks only.seems to reattatch everything and localises overheating.

depends what the error is. I had one last night with 0110 (RAM) so that's what I focussed on :P. It's worth a go though, trying it with the heatsinks on, I just assume you'd have to go for a little longer to get the solder to melt....
